Anyone have one? Worth it?
I have gotten a few quotes around $1700-$2000 to get a system installed.
I am just not sure if its worth it in Calgary.
Thoughts?

I don't think you'll make your money back with the gain in efficiency, but I haven't looked that closely at it.
What's your annual natural gas bill right now?

I have one but I don't know if it's worth it or not. Had it put in during the build so nothing to compare it to.
I also had one in my house that was a new build. And I really don't know if it made a difference (as far as energy savings). My bills were similar to some friends that had a similar sized home.
I don't know if it was just in my head but in the winter, I found that it did a good job with keeping the house fresh inside. The air in the house did not really get stale, if that makes sense.
The filters have to be cleaned often (usually monthly) and I would not recommend it if it is linked to the bathroom fans. Mine was definitely not powerful enough (or balanced enough) and the en suite bathroom (farthest from the HRV unit) would not get proper ventilation when taking a shower. The walls would get wet.
Unless youre planning on keeping the house for decades, I wouldnt bother. Its the same as spending insane amounts on new ultra HE furnaces.... NG prices are so low that its not worth the financial consideration, not to mention the extra maintenance costs.
I'll likely be here for a long time. I'm going to do a bit more research and see if it makes any sense
From all my reading, it's not worth it in Calgary's climate. That said I see builders like Jayman installing them as standard equipment now.
