    Default GPAs in the workforce

For all you who have finished post secondary, when you were job hunting did your potential employer ask for your GPA?

Nope. Never, although I have heard of instances where a prospective employer might request a transcript. In any event, it seems few and far between.

My GPA is what got me the job over the other candidates. Everybody I've asked at work had their GPAs checked and nobody in the professional positions has a GPA of less than 3.7. But I will agree that this is probably a unique situation.

I have never been asked what my GPA was in an interview or have been asked to submit transcripts.

The only time I could see it happening, is if the job interview process is down to two solid candidates and the employer can't decide which one to hire. Perhaps they will go to GPA as a tie breaker, but only if both the candidates are right out of school. Once you have a couple of years of work experience under your belt, that will be much greater than a high GPA.

After graduating I was asked for my transcripts and GPA for pretty much every job I applied to. Funny thing is when I moved on from that job in half a year and applied to another one, I was never asked about that it again, it was only about experience and info about my former position.

It was my experience that got me my job, not my GPA. If it were, I'd still be looking for a job!

I'd be a little concerned about working for a place that hires based on school marks... I know people who have amazing GPAs, but would be lost if they were in a situation that wasn't found in a textbook.

my dad just hired a couple university students, he looked at their transcripts but based it more on how they did in the interview and such, if you had a bad transcript, i'm sure it would have hurt their chances

its good to hear that many employers don't look at your gpa. Anybody here in the accounting field?..just want to know if they look at your gpa if your coming right out of post secondary with a degree for that?

I'm in Accounting for a Agricultural Nutrient company.

I think it's just Co-Op programs that consider the GPA.. if your mark was high enough you can get into the program... I know Imperial Oil was hiring summer students with a high GPA.. I don't know if they're the same for grads as well..

I was never asked for my GPA or my transcripts..

Companies who put a high consideration on GPA needs to re-evaluate themselves..

Hmm.. I'm sorta surprised that the ratio is about 25% to 75% cuz most of the people that I talked to were never asked for their GPA so I figured the ratio would be something closer to 15% to 85%.

most employers aren't concerned as much with gpa's because in my experience only 1% of what u learn in school applies to the real world

Thank God they didn't ask for mine. They did request transcripts afterwards to verify that I did have a degree.

Never been asked before. I wonder how many people say they graduated with honors and then don't have to back it up.

When I was looking for my first field related (Comp. Sci.) I looked mainly through the UC Career Services postings and more often than not, they do ask for a transcript. These were full time positions and not just summer or internships/co-ops. After some experience though, employers don't seem to care much about GPA and transcripts.
Someday we may need to activate the halo structure off Deerfoot and destroy the North East.
