Pick up some CAD courses and become a draftsman, or become an engineer. Oil and Gas is going to be hella busy on the design end of things in the spring...

i agree, why don't you work on industrial design or mould-making, every product starts with a mould.

lol, I'm also in this same kind of position, I just graduated from high school, now what? I haven't decided what I wanna go into.

A friend of my dads said he needs an apprentice at his mechanics shop, but I'm not sure I wanna get into mechanics. Sure I love cars, and I'd love to be working on them all the time, but like my dad says: "Its a dirty job, and you'll be getting your hands dirty all the time."

Any recommendations at SAIT for a good job in a few years?

Anything in the Oil & Gas sector pays fairly well. Most of the mid-high level positions are $70,000 and up per year. Do you want an office job?

My buddy works in the field as a directional driller and he makes $200,000.00/year. A 1st year MWD can make $90,000.00 year and go up from there.

Engineers, Geologist and Geophysicists 1st year are usually around $50,000.00/year after a few years you can easily exceed $100,000.00 depending on how good you are.

Sales is good once you're in a company with good accounts, or ability to find good accounts.. if you don't have good accounts then you're pretty much screwed.. but yeah Sales is a good way to go, but you have to be good at it.

If all you want is $$$ then Dentist

If you want some money ($$), be respected (by most people), but still have to work fairly hard then Medicine.

I just joined the Canadian Forces. I get paid 38k a year, sounds low, but with accomodations and food, its a lot to start out with. I start my trade training in January, and by June i will be QL3 qualified in Naval communications. Pay goes up, opportunities go up, and i can leave the forces and have a trade that will earn me lots of money.

easy to get into... i think ur dreamin! but good pay!

just do what ur interests are cuz then ull never get bored, with a career like medicine ull have to work so freakin hard for so long and may just get fed-up and its not for everyone so in a sense ull just be wasting ur time and $$!!

just sit down and think one day, and put the $$ issue aside for a min. and think about what YOU like to do, then decide on a career, you wont be dissappointed! or just take general courses and see what appeals to you!

Reasons why dentists have the highest suicide rates is cause people loathe the dentist... why? cause needles in your mouth fuckin hurt and so does pulling teeth... the dentist (subconsciously) feels like hes punishing people or torturing them and it all builds up, resulting in overwhelmming guilt... thus suicidal thoughts occur.

Yay for psychology! (another useless field to get into... i should know...)

If your talking about education go into business or economics they arethe most general degrees around. As far as placement is concerned I think your best bet would be engineering though.

Everyone should be a dentist then i could make a living being a dentist suicide counsellor. Hey i dont even have to be good at it.

Oil and gas are good though if you wanna stay in or around Calgary. Thats always a safe bet. There will be numerous posistions in healthcare due to retirement. Keep that in mind.

Might I recommend nursing...depending on whether you consider it a "male" or "female" profession. My reason being is because a first year makes $52 000/year (my friend's a new nurse) after getting shift differential etc. If you don't like the hospital, there's always Oil and Gas, community, flight nursing, pharmaceuticals etc. etc.

Also, you can find a job ANYWHERE in the world....Hawaii is looking badly and most other places in the US pay a minimal starting salary of $60 000 USD. Plus, you get car allowance, a car, free rental for a few months, place ticket to fly down etc. etc.

    Just my 2 cents....
