The Acura RL has had a system like this since 2006, 1 year after the redesign was introduced and the CMBS (Collision Mitigation Braking System) was also available on technology package models coupled with an ACC (Active Cruise Control) system.
the CMBS/ACC system controls distance between vehicles ahead of you when cruise control is engaged and will automatically give visual and audible warnings if the vehicle is approaching an object to fast or unsafely (within a specific threshold), if no driver response is sensed, it will begin to slow the vehicle down. If the system senses a collision is unavoidable it will automatically signal the front seatbelt tensioners to retract slightly. The vehicle will also engage hard braking, thus reducing the speed and potential for injury during a front end crash.
The 2009+ RL and 2010 MDX Elite models now come with CMBS/ACC systems with the optional technology package along with a new blind-spot detection system.
good that other manufacturers are incorporating these systems.

The Audi Q7 has this feature too, but it can do full stops and everything. You can literally just use that system and not touch the gas or the brakes and just steer.
Mercedes actually introduced this in the EU market about 6 or 8 years ago. It wasn't working very well at first, a German TV crew who was shooting a demo of it saw an SL with the system rear end another one when they tested it haha.

I remember hearing about that on Top Gear I think. When they were reviewing the S-Class, Jeremy Clarkson was talking about how the S-Class has brought so many new technologies to the market and than he said something about that I think. 8th season IIRC.
haha I know which video you are talking about! I thought that was with the E class.Originally posted by ragu
