It's free to unlock most nokia phones, there's a code generator around on the internet.

That only works on the DCT-4 Nokia phones and it won't work on all of them. From what I've heard it doesn't work with the Fido 8390. I know for sure it works with the Rogers ones since I've done it a few times.

i said "most"... meaning DCT-4... should have been more specific, but i didn't wanna have to start explaining what that means

but thanks for pointing out the part about fido phones... i completely forgot about that. I know for sure this works for rogers phones, but it only works for "some" fido 8390's YMMV

I've got a Nokia 8390 on the Rogers Network. I would like to use it on Fido . I've tried the registration code generator but it doesn't work. Can somebody help me.

be careful... if you do it too many times (enter the wrong code) on the nokia it locks them up permanently... its been awhile since ive done one, so correct me if im wrong!

that still applies, even for phones as new as the Nokia 3595. Don't try the code more than 5 times, or else it's pretty much useless.

Well the calculator give 7 codes back and you only have 5 tries. It is not very hard to determine in which order the codes should be entered. I've never personally seen it take more than 2 codes to get it right and that only happened once.

Even if you lock it by entering the wrong code more than 5 times you can flash the phone but that costs $$$.

I have a 6590i, is it possible to unlock it? I don't need to switch providers but I'd like to get rid of the Rogers banner.
You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

I don't htink you can delete the rogers baner because that is actually on the sim card of the phone (if you mean the banner in the menu screen)

it is generally done on GSM phones so that you can use the phone with different providers. So if you bought a phone from Rogers you could only use it with Rogers unless you have it unlocked. You can then put a Fido SIM in the phone and it will work.

I think with nokia's you can't get "rid" of the operator logo, but you can download a blank operator logo in its place.

Not sure if all nokia's are capable, but i'm sure the 60 series phone has some equivalent method.
