aka IP cams, i've been meaning to get another but so far one is good enough (theres only one way access to get to where all the stuff worth stealing is), so far it's been great for notifying me when something passes by which is watching what the gf's cat does all day (absolutely nothing at fken all)

Well what kind of ip cams are you guys using. I was looking at the logitech alert, it is kind of pricey but the features seem good.

No, I mean webcams, like the little one on the stand. Just set up VNC on your machine, remote into it and fire up the webcam. Or just pipe it through port 80. I went home to Newfoundland for a month over Christmas and would check in on my house whenever I walked by my laptop.

Stop thinking ADT and start thinking Legos. X10 isn't an alarm system, it's a 2 way technology that you can use to set up whatever you want. It hooks up to your computer and communicates over your house's 120 wiring so there are absolutely no wires and no subscription costs. Set up a MS14A for motion detection, have it send a signal back to your computer that runs a script telling your webcam to take a picture and have your desktop email that out to you. Total cost = $15. And it's fully customizable.

With X10 I can remote into it with my phone, check my webcams, turn on my sprinkler, check the temperature, turn off the lights and turn on the fireplace. All in minutes. If you're wondering why everyone doesn't use it, it's because it takes some knowledge of the product to get it working right......or a guy like me that's been using it for years to install it for you.

You go out of town while X10 has control of the fireplace and sprinkler system in your own home?

X10 is wired in series with a light switch. Flip the switch and the X10 no longer works.

Well I will look into x10 some more. I was figuring the simon xt as i saw it has x10 and also zwave support i believe, but zwave is $$$ compared to x10. Then I could add items as I went along as it supports 40 wireless zones.

Ya, that is one of the reasons I was researching it, it looks like it has good expandability and looks nicer than the actual x10 panel + sensors. It seems as you can get a basic setup for about $200 on ebay then start adding more sensors and such.
