Bosses kid is going to school so he asked me to pick out a laptop, and he would like it by Wed (so Dell is out unfortunately).

It's for student, not gaming, Office student edition 2003 and XP needed, 512 ram, 80g drive is fine.

In terms of service/warranty what store would be the least hassle for him? I personally wouldn't normally use BestBuy/FS but might be a good option for him? Are there any shops that won't ship the laptop off for a month if something breaks?

HP/Compaq were the devil several years ago - I assume they are still crap?

So if you had 1500-2500 for a school laptop which would you buy and from where?

I find COmpaq desktops the shit all around, no matter how old or new. But I actually am quite fond of their Laptops.

I know my brother is using a Toshiba from SAIT right now, they have always worked from everyone I talk to.

Although I would have to go with Dell myself.

Compusmart has some great back to school deals.

I just picked up a Compaq with an AMD64 3500+, 128MB video card, 512 ram, 100GB hdd, and it has a great screen for only 1400+tax

I dont see their specials listed on the website, but I would pop into their store and have a look. It's in their flyer.

They also have some really good deals on their HP Notebooks.

compusmart has good deals depends on what you get might get office and all that for free too

toshiba is probably the brand u want to go with service wise, or the god of all laptops IBM, but those might be too pricey

toshiba and ibm are fixed right at compusmart whereas hp and compaq need to be sent out for work somewhere in the eastern canada

He could be doing CAD, 3D, Digital Image Editing, Raster graphics, Rendering or a ton of other things that warrants a higher end price tag.
