Mardi Gras(sp?) and Brazil

i have always wanted to go to a mardi gras(sp?) now that New Orleans was wiped off the face of the earth i have decided on Brazil. Has anyone gone to one? Has anyone gone to brazil? If so where to stay and what to do? Best flights to take and best time to go?

don't know alot about brazil, but if you're going to rio be careful. my cousin and his then girlfriend were mugged and roughed up pretty bad along one of the main roads. and unless you bribe the police you ain't getting any help.

A good time to go down to Rio is in October, they have some really nice ppl down there ... but like anywhere in the world you have a chance of gettin mugged if you look like a tourist , a quick google search will show you a bunch of places to stay.

If you are going to Brazil go during Carnival, trust me it is great.

Is it safe? Its not as safe as here, but if you keep your head out of your ass you should be fine.
