Well, this morning, we all woke up in our quiet little neighborhood to find the passenger and drivers side windows of our family's Chevy Silverado heavy duty diesel smashed in, and the center console pried open (looks like it was a very quick job with a crowbar and some grunt). This happened Wednesday September 21st, 2005, between the hours of 0100 and 0600, in the NW community of Charleswood (we are not known for having a high crime rate). With all the recent break ins and thefts of vehicles around the University and surrounding communities, there may be some connection between all these events.

In any case, if anyone has any information or knows anything about this break in (nothing was stolen, amazingly, not even the binoculars in the back seat), please PM me with details so we can file a report with our insurance about the break in. There is also apparently a police investigation into the string of recent break ins, as I was talking to some students at the U of C today that had had their windows smashed and radios and CD's stolen on their vehicles.

Basically, keep your valuables with you, park in highly visible areas and keep an eye out for people smashing car windows.
