In your own opinion, what car on the market (used) is the most reliable car?

I'd say most Honda's and Acura's would make it on the top 10 list for sure

Toyota Corolla, Camry
Honda Civic, Accord

Any used car can be iffy no matter where it was manufactured but those would be my recommendations. If the car has been modded all bets are off.

Toyota Corolla, Camry or Honda Civic and Accord like previously stated.

IMO, the Toyota's would be first and foremost. Followed by the Honda's

Stay away from all Honda/Acrua with V6 built between 1997 to 2004.

Auto tranny is a POS. Chances that it blows on you is high.

Most 4 cycl Toyota/Honda are tough work horses.

I know this thread says used but currently in Canada the most reliable new sedans are Chevy Impala, Pontiac Grandprix and one of the Buicks. This is in initial quality. Who would have thought hey ;)

'87 accord..
Radiator fucked.
Center portion of exhaust pipe fucked.
Manifold rusted through
Muffler rusted through
Right axle
E-brake line
Timing belt snapped
Valve cylinder fucked when timing belt snapped
Engine blew at 270,000 km
Auto tranny bit the dust, twice

Thats...about it as far as mechanical stuff - cosmetic based the wells were rusty, the tires stayed pretty good for .. a long long time so thats a bonus, the cd player that was put in there ate cd's alot .. and the speakers were crap :)

Aside from that .. great car.

As for most reliable ? My old Nissan Pintara was a pretty reliable car, never a problem I couldn't fix quickly, but that was Australian so there was no rust or anything ..

For myself personally one of the least reliable cars I've owned was a 1998 Civic. Suprisingly the most reliable was a 1978 Z28. Probably not typical though ...

Even GM Bob Lutz think Japanese quality is better. This mentality which Japanese built in the 80's stuck in the public concious. But like Lutz said, once your whip out the facts, GM is in the ranks with Lexus and Toyota.

I'd agree, but Toyota has basically set the standard in terms of build quality on their current models. Where previously (10 years~) Honda had held the title.

Mercedes 240d. Can get a million MILES on that motor. Trouble is finding one without a million miles on the motor.

I'll also second the late 80's early 90's Volvos.

:werd: , no overstatement, most old benz' in general were built good, but the diesels are even more so reliable. I've personally seen one that has aorund 700 kliks on it.

Anything built on the Panther platform ( Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Marauder) are great for reliability. Police officers and taxi drivers use them for a reason; they're roomy, comfy, and pretty cheap to maintain.

I'm pretty sure that the answer is old Volvo hands down, as I've already stated. I've been driving an old school Benz for awhile, and an old school Volvo for even longer, my benz, and others of the gen and previous are really damn good, but nothing matches the Volvo.

Old Benz is very reliable, old Volvo is indestructable. This coming from somebody with a heavy Benz bias.

I tried to destroy my volvo, i treated it like shit, drove it over curbs, through 2 foot snowbanks, pedal to the floor all the time and never a problem. I tried to destroy it and it just wouldn't die.

So this winter will be another harsh season under my foot for my loyal volvo, 300 000 hard kms and still going easy.

All bullshit aside, Toyota. They make cars that just will not die.

Older Lexus LS400's (or any other toyota). I've seen examples of 1st gen LS400's with well over 500 000kms, still running strong. These are VERY well-built cars.

A Nissan (Infinity) made the most reliable list? Nissans are Japanese junk cars. The dash paint (who paints dash plastic?) on my buddies G35 coupe scratches like white-out and the brake pads lasted about a year.
