not a bad winter beater

It was $3k. Can't beat that for a reliable 4x4 in good condition. It's so damn slow though.

Man, those jeeps are gas guzzlers, when my car was in the shop I had to drive one for a couple weeks.

I have a volvo 740gl, I'll post pics later.

It's a heck of a lot better then my mustang. Mine is a 4L non-HO. The newer ones feel quite a bit more powerful.

I need a beater like that. How reliable are these beasts?

Ekliptix
09-22-2005, 08:20 PM
The Jeep? Mine is a standard btw. It has 220,000km and it feels pretty tight still.
I had to replace the radiator a year ago and that's it. It uses very little oil.

Mine does not have a RPM gauge so this light comes on when it wants me to shift. Maybe it's lasting so long because it never sees above 3500rpm..?

That's an awesome dog.

The winter beater is the summer grocery-wagon: Nissan 200SX. I'm prepping the bike for storage in the next week or so; hopefully there'll be some killer chinooks and I can go riding in December.

That's a cool looking dogsled. You're going to fly.
I used to dogsled hardcore in grade 7 and 8 when I went to boarding school. 4 day expeditions north of Edmonton, no tents, digging a hole in the snow and sticking our sleeping bags in.
On my second year I lost part of my toe to frostbite and my buddy got serious frostbite and lost 9 toes and some foot. Many months in the Burn Unit. :thumbsdow:

We had 50 huskys and malimutes on site and would hook 5/6 up to a sled. The big strong ones in the back and the smart ones up front to listen to our commands.
A couple times I'd take a couple of the smart ones out and hook them onto my GT Snowracer and they'd drag me around reeeally fast. My brakes were worn out after 30min of that.

In the summer to train them we'd use a kind of large go cart with no motor and a rollbar and platform on the back. The dogs would pull us through trails and stuff. Sometimes going down a hill the go cart would start to catch up the the dogs and they'd feel it nipping their heals. That'd put them intp the next gear. :D

Sorry for the slight hijack.

Also, we snowshoed 50km in one day hauling gear in grade 8 during races between teams. :nut:

Ekliptix: Thats awesome. Poor man's snowmobile. :D

My dog hasn't quite mastered the "SLOW DOWN" or "STOP" command. :D

I've lost skin from both elbows from him pulling me on rollerblades and chasing a rabbit.

We clocked him at 45kph pulling me on rollerblades while chasing my wife's car. The bearings in the rollerblades started to sing around 35kph I think.

Ekliptix
10-20-2005, 11:47 AM
45km/h!? That's hauling!!

The commands we used were go, stop, left, right, pay attention, good job, pull really hard.
We used the commands in Inuit language too which was cool.

Have you bought a harness and tried to put it on him yet? That can be a chore if they don't want to cooperate.

Gripenfelter
10-20-2005, 12:51 PM
I have an X-back harness. Its hard enough getting him into his collar let alone a harness. But if I bunch it all up and put his head through, he doesn't get tangled up.

That's gotta be a fun little rocket..you can probably hook up off the line pretty good as there isn't gobs of torque to contend with.

Depends on how naughty I drive it. On dry/warm pavement I can spin through first and chirp second and third, but spinning isn't fast and wastes rubber so I usually don't launch hard. Plus spinning is only cool in RWD cars. :D

Still rockin the F-body in the snow :bigpimp:

I thought you did something with the rear end of that thing?

As for gas mileage I don't think I've owned a vehicle that's gotten more than 24MPG. The Jeep averages 11.7 most of the time, doesn't seem to make much of a difference how I drive it(I may have gotten 11.9/12 with some highway driving), gas mileage typically isn't a concern for me unless the vehicle is insanely underpowered. The Jeep does pretty good and is plenty of fun with traction control off so I don't complain, I use a company vehicle for work, to and from.

Today I learned "Beater" means a completely different thing in Calgary.

Here's my little POS I tour around in. Bought it exactly as it sits now for 400$, haven't had to put a penny into it as of yet. Taken it back and forth to Edmonton a few times and handles the highway great.

Only complaint is open diff blows in the snow. Likely going to dump it when the new DD comes in, but for now it lets my FR-S sit in the garage so can't complain any.

Yup..for now. Next winter might be a different story as I'm planning on lowering her slightly. Yes, I do have the black out berger panel but that's for the summer only

Wow that SRT8 really gets horrendous mileage, I figured you'd get at least 14+ mpg city. Still love those though.
