Hey,

I bought my car at an auction, and it came with 3 remotes. One was the factory remote, which works fine. The two other ones were the same model but with different colored buttons (not sure if this makes a difference or not)

One of the colored remotes does not work at all. The other one activates an alarm on the car when you press the lock button. It obviously de-activates the alarm when you press the unlock button. (it also locks and unlocks the doors...duh!) It has a trunk button, but it does not work at all. It also has a button with a snowflake on it, but that appears to do nothing at all. Sometimes, when i go to deactivate alarm/unlock, the buttom does not work. I have to press it like 20 times before it actually works.

Is it just a new battery that i need? If so, why is it that sometimes the unlock button works and sometimes not, but the lock works fine 100% of the time? Is it just like a watch battery that you can get installed from zellers or something?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid post, but I'm out of ideas.

Button contacts might simply need cleaning. Take out the battery and test it before you buy a new one.

If it's a battery you need, DON'T go the the battery specialty shops because they'll rape you. Last year I was looking for a CR-2032 button cell battery and the Battery Stop (or whatever they're called now) in TD Square wanted $9. Radio Shack's price was $5 which I thought was a reasonable so I bought it. Then a month later I found them at Mountain Equipment Coop for $1 each!

The snowflake should start the car. It may take 2 presses of the snowflake to activate the starter. Sounds like an Avital remote starter alarm combo.
If not, check the on/off switch and make sure it is on.
Then check the hood switch to make sure it is not grounded.

The lock and unlock work in conjuction with the alarm.
If you lock the doors with your door switch instead of the alarm, then the remote will be "out of sequence".
If the brain thinks the alarm is disarmed, it won't disarm it again.

Try the lock, then the unlock button. This should work.

As for the lock/unlock, if you press this while a door is open you may be placing it into "valet" mode.
If you can get the unit number off the brain, I can get you an owner's manual.

The brand of the remote is UNGO...but everything on the back has been worn off, so theres no model number or anything.

I was initially thinking that the snowflake was a remote starter, and if it is, and it actually works then that would make my year haha.

The car that I had before this was so old that i had to use a key to get in and out haha. so I don't really know anything about remote starters at all  ....

Where would the on/off switch be located? Theres nothing on the remote, so I'm guessing that its somewhere in the car, but the only thing that I found that could be related to the remote is a little red flashing light on my steering column... Also this hood switch....somewhere by the engine im guessing? Would it say something on it that would let me know that im checking the right switch?

Sorry for the ignorance here haha, i feel so dumb.

The on/off switch is a silver switch, should be under the dash somewhere, or behind the fuse panel. The light is for the the alarm.
Does the lock button activate a siren chirp, or your horn honk when pressed for 2 seconds?
Is the light on continuously?
If so the unit is in valet mode. There should be a small black push button switch under the dash as well. Turn the key on, then off, the press and release the valet switch once. The light will go out. Now try the remote starter with the snowflake button (2 presses is default).
Let me know what happens.

I did however take a look, and didn't find anything that you were talking about....unless I'm completely blind. I did take pics though haha and a video so maybe somebody could point something out for me :)

As you can see in the video, I try to hit the unlock button several times before it actually works. :dunno:

Judging by the pictures you have, there does not look to be a remote starter installed.
The wierd thing above the pedals is the diagnostic plug (factory).
There should be a unit under the dash somewhere. Can you get a pic of the wiring under the dash closer to the firewall. You may only have an alarm.
The unlock button on the remote may not be functioning properly. You can try to take it apart and clean the contacts on the button. Be careful though.
