After selling my CRX, I am in the market for a new winter beater.

I have narrowed my search down to two cars and am having a tough time figuring out which of the two cars is better. Factors I am particularly concerned about include:

- reliability
- common reported problems/recalls
- gas mileage
- resale
- cheaper parts
- cheaper to maintain

Also, if anybody knows any CONS of either car, please share them with me!

The two cars I am choosing between is ...

1990 Toyota Celica GT (210xxx km's)

or

1992 Honda Prelude SR (210xxx km's)

Assuming that both cars have been equally well maintained and the owners are asking a similar price, which would you guys select and why?

Any info is appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

well if price is similar..i'd go with the prelude since its a nicer car than a 90 celica IMO. also my bro owned one for around a year, and had few problems with reliability.

Thanks for the input Statick. If you don't mind me asking, what were some common problems with your brother's Prelude?

Regardless of car, check to make sure the trunk doesn't leak water. That's a pain in the ass, and it stinks too.

If it's dry now, check the card-board above the spare-tire well.

Out of the information you have given us, I would take the Prelude simply because it's two years younger.

Two years younger = two less winters driven.

I'd go with the Prelude...both are great cars and will work fine for you as a winter vehicle. I just like the styling of that gen Prelude a lot more than the Celica and like hockeybronx said, the car is a couple years newer.

Parts for the Prelude will also be cheaper than the Celica.

:werd: If both are in the same condition of health, running similar mileage and are the same price, I'd go with the Prelude too just cuz it's simply younger.

Prelude in 92 have 130 hp doesn't it?
The GTS has 130 I believe, and GT hmm not sure, 116?

the 4rth gen lude has 160 on the 2.3L H23, unless it's an SR-V in which case it has a H22a Engine in it running 200 HP.

I think the SR-V's were rated just slightly under 200hp. Like 190hp or 195hp. Still a decent motor though!
