well, had a dyno last weekend, i was .7hp low of my goal, but whatever, its just a tdi... after all, its not a sports car lol.

so, hoping race city is open this week, to see what i can get, hopefully without breaking any more axles... :p

here's the graph: (yes mustang dyno, no silly dynojet :))

http://servfiles.com/4520/

any predictions?? i am aiming for 15's! so watch out! ahah

btw, not bad for 45ish MPG and having doubled the original factory power using ALL OEM parts!

u'd hit high 14

Boosted_TL
09-27-2005, 07:08 PM
Well seen as how you are all TQ and not HP, traction wont be an issue. I would say your shoot for 15's would be easily acheiveable, even high 14's. Thats also on a Mustang Dyno so you are close to 300 TQ. Dom told me about your torque monster from last saturday and I was impressed.

i'd say 15s

Aleks
09-27-2005, 09:55 PM
Haha awsome that's more HP than a stock type R would make on that dyno LOL. This thing must be awsome in city driving! My guess for you is 15.3s.

bart
09-27-2005, 10:29 PM
thanks! i am thinking 15.5 maybe, we'll see. city driving is the best part, 2nd gear at 2k seems to feel like i keep getting rear ended! ahah

see you friday maybe.

16.2@82mph

Thats assuming your car weighs in around 3250 with you in the car.

Did I guess right on the weight?

^^arent redlines on the tdi like 4500...?

bart
09-28-2005, 04:18 PM
yes it will weigh that much with me, and i will shift at redline (4750rpm).

89coupe
09-28-2005, 04:28 PM
Then there is no chance in hell of you getting into the 15's...sorry :dunno:

16.2@82mph is my guess. Post your results after you hit the track.

since that was on Mustang Dyno, I say 15.5 to 16, w/ a trap hovering around 87.

I am thinking high to mid 15's

89coupe

Its physically impossible for him to get into the 15's with a vehicle that weighs 3250lbs with driver and only making 150rwhp. Impossible!

150fwhp! :) ahah i guess we'll see. :D

Z_Fan
09-29-2005, 11:03 AM
Well, I have a car which weighed in at 2980 lbs with driver. It says it has 175 bhp. So, probably not 150 to the wheels. It has run in the 15's. In fact, mid 15's!

So, if he has 150 whp on a mustang dyno, then he's got almost 175 to the wheel on a dynojet. I think he can do 15's, but I think it will be high 15's. So, that's my guess.

When do we get to see it run?

Edit: Horsepower / ET Calculator says it 3250 pounds can run a 15.5 if it puts 172 hp to the wheels. So, I think 15's is realistic. I'm sure there will be lots of 16's as well.

Power to weight ratio is very close to my SLK 320 which ran 15.7@90mph or something. I have no idea what gearing is like, and bart probably shifts faster than my SLK slushbox, so I'll guess [email protected].

but it's a front drive

don't think it has the r32 awd system.

that really low redline will hurt you.

hope you shift real fast.

i'd say between 15.9 and 16.4

if this is your first time expect to be disappointed

there is a learning curve.

second third and so on will be better and better.

expect that much on friday and let us know how she does

fun to see someone finally mod a tdi been wanting to see that for a while :P

Just for the record. Have you weighed your car and how much do you weigh.

I'm making this bet on the assumption you and your car weigh in at 3250lbs???

bart
09-29-2005, 12:07 PM
no, not recently, i will go weigh it at the weigh station today if you want, deerfoot extension one?? or where is it?? i will leave seats and stuff like that in the car. just like it is when i drive it on the street.

other thing, it will be on winter tires (blizzaks), but i think i will put 17" 245's ready to be thrown out rcompounds on the front... so hopefully i get a better off the line launch. we'll see. so i dont know if that matters for your bets :) so they have good street tire level grip now i think.

OK!

according to hwy2 weigh station, 1340kg, which according to google is 2950lbs... seems to be a bit low to me, but whatever. thats with fuel light on and me in the car, as it will be tomorrow night.

so i guess ladies and gentlemen, re-estimate your times and place your bets! :D

15.8 @ 91 :dunno:

bart
09-29-2005, 10:38 PM
also, my door says 1475kg, not sure if thats dry or not, assuming its full fuel and fluids, add me (85kg) thats 3400lbs, so no idea where they get an extra 200lbs from... unless the scale wasn't working properly.

according to vw website, its officially 1330kg empty, so that would make it 1415kg or (3110lbs). so who knows what to go off of!

ok -> 15.49. (i guessed 15.5)

that was my first run. slight spin at launch and once i put it into 2nd.

2nd run was shit, spinned all the way through 1st and 2nd, got over 16, same thing happened in 3rd run, but it wasnt the tires slipping, except clutch, just went to redline and sat there, omg, so i didnt even bother. i guess i burned it up trying to warm the tires up alot in the water box that run. time to get something stronger :) (its still factory)

anyway, assuming i could have gotten more grip maybe .1 or .2 faster i could have been, oh well, we get the idea. now its time to get ready for some 'real' racing next year! enough with the 1/4 stuff

here is the slip and enjoy your beers! :D

- Rasmus

bart
10-08-2005, 11:29 AM
mmm temptation, i told myself no more engine mods though, but i said that a few times before too, and look what happens. maybe once i get bored of the speed, you never know. :burnout:

and i have to keep my MPG above 40 though with crazy fast city driving... so have to find the nice equilibrium. :bigpimp: trying to squeeze any more out would use much more fuel, and reliability would start to drop a bit faster. only a tdi folks! ahah

Raz
10-08-2005, 11:40 AM
Well, it wouldn't use more fuel to free up your intake/exhaust a bit? And hell, it might free up some horsies, spool that turbo a hundred or two rpm earlier ... ?

that or a more efficient turbo?

- Rasmus

bart
10-08-2005, 11:46 AM
well my intake and exhast are still all stock. actually the best intake for a tdi is the stock one, with the paper filter, just replace it every service. trust me.

next, the exhaust i can run a straight pipe all the way through to the end, that should easy up on the turbo and on diesels it actually doesnt really affect their sound like on a gas car. they would just sound a bit deeper.

so last question, -1s faster at sea level??

who knows, maybe i will do some more tweaks, and try to get 14.999 at race city next spring. ;) but that will probably be too hard without adding lots more hp. i started from 18's i think it was factory, then 17's, then mid 16's, then low 16's, then now mid 15's everytime i went and gauged the mods.

Raz
10-08-2005, 12:49 PM
why would the best filter be a paper filter? Like any engine it needs to breathe, why would a big ass cone filter not be better? ;)

straight pipe out the back 2.5+ inner diameter would not be a bad idea :)

I think you can run a high 14 easy, lil more mod, lil more traction in 1st, maybe another lb of boost ;)

- Rasmus

bart
10-08-2005, 01:00 PM
we'll see :D. running 22psi now, basically because thats what i hear a stock block can handle safely. turbo is good for 26. i guess i can crank it up for a few runs :D. never tried. compression is 19.5:1, so maybe going to 18 would be a safe bet, i dunno.

i need rage2 tuning!!!!! lol

Raz
10-08-2005, 01:04 PM
You're considering taking down compression? if anything you should up it :) My buddies TDI runs 22:1 with 19 psi of boost.

Brace the block?

;)

- Rasmus

Penguin_Racecar

running at sea level won't be that much faster, since it's a turbocharged car. Maybe .3 to .4 of a second?

I disagree... it all depends on your tuning. I ran a 13.000 @ 108mph at sea level. Here I can't break into the 13's. That's more than a full second.

Falls on it's face in Calgary at the top of 4th for some reason.

And estimating a 1/4 mile based on HP is useless. I have 290whp @ 9psi and when I have the seats out my car weighs 2580 lbs.

Raz
10-08-2005, 01:37 PM
thats alot of power for a light car, are you having traction issues or something else? you should be deep in 13s top of 12s with that sort of hp/weight ratio!

- Rasmus

SilverBoost
10-08-2005, 05:54 PM
Its fully a tune issue. I don't think my SAFC is enough of a mangement system to tune at elevation??? Like I said, at sea level it's all good, but here it just won't work it seems. I am going to try to tune it once more when I get my gaskets replaced in my wastegate but right now it runs so rich I have to change my oil every 2000 kms because it starts to get to much fuel in it.

10-08-2005, 06:36 PM
