I have noticed that every retail/service/fastfood... place in this city is hiring. I want to know if companies have been increasing their pay to attract employees. For people who work in jobs like that were do you or your friends work and how much do you make? Or if you know what a company pays for a particular position post that too.

When I worked at mcdonalds (over 6 years ago) I just got on right after they switched from 4.50 to 5.90.

I think the going rate for FF jobs is about 8.50+.

I'm mostly interested in what people are being paid for mcjobs not careers. (unless your career is a mcjob)

I drove by a DQ and they were hiring for 9+/hr.

do you guys think what part of the city matters?

Everything else is going up (gas, heating, rent etc.) so does the hourly wage

QuasarCav
09-28-2005, 12:05 PM
It what shift that matters.

FT: usually .50 - 1.00 more than the PT workers. Although people working in the core seem to make a little more because the demand is greater.

The DQ grill & chill in deerfoot meadows is up to 9.50.

You can do alot with 9.50 if you live at home and dont pay tax.

Most franchised fast food places pay over minimum wage. McDonalds pays $8.00/hr daytime and 9.00/hr nites and most other places are close to that.

My daughter makes $8.50/hr. as a cashier at Superstore. However, you can get raises pretty quickly.

Saw a sign @ CountryHills Timmys that say they'll pay $8.50/hr + profit sharing.

Interesting way to attract workers.

Yeah most FF places are at least $8 to start. I think its because there is a lack of labor for those types of jobs?

Nah, it's only in the fast food service type industry where wages seem to have gone up a bit, regardless, not much of a difference between 6 bucks and 8 bucks. Still cant live off it.

Wages in other industries dont seem to be going up all that much. Likely due to the increase in minimum wage.

summer: 9.50$/hr. Good job because i get to know some pretty powerful people and people who can help me out in the long run. For example, i know a bunch of guys who own car dealerships in calgary and they have all offered to help me out since my car got stolen on friday.

winter: 21.60$/hr. I work teaching lifeguarding lessons. Its really tough work, and shifts are normally only 4-5 hours. Make a ton more cash. :)

All in all, not too bad for a university student

Leave.

A landscaping company should pay, at the BARE MINIMUM, $8 /hr as per the internal "rules," because there is a danger to the job (my bro slipped once and had his foot go under the mower, thank god he was wearing steel toed and shank boots). I make $11.00/hr at my landscaping job, and that is for chemical and non-chemical fertilizer application to lawn in the summer, and odd-job/fall cleanup/snow removal the rest of the year. $4.90/hr for landscaping work is horrifying.

And I am at the bare minimum wage that my company sets.

69cougar

$4.90 isnt even close to minimum wage.

how the fuck do you shovel snow for 10 hours a day? haha

Vagabond142
12-08-2005, 03:28 AM
SZW: Start at 5 am, end at 3 pm. ULS Maintenance and Landscaping (the company I work for) has about half of Calgary on contract, and we have 8 or so huge landscaping trucks we bump around in doing snow clearing, ice scraping (if the sidewalks or walkways of the businesses and rezzies where we work are icy), ice melt application, site checks, safety checks, etc. Most days it's 6-7 hours, but with the increased snowfall warnings coming, we're looking at 10 hour days :D

It's a decent job, good pay, they give you a winter jacket and toque too! :bigpimp: In summer they also give you a windbreaker, shirts, hats and a sweater. They take care of you damned well at ULS :bigpimp:
