I have been employed with x company for 5 years now (May), and decided to raise a stink over wage. I outlined the responsiblities I have and the current workload to my office manager.

A few days later he comes back and tells me that I have been slightly underpaid for the last few years. So, I ended up with an $800/month raise.

So, I am in a good mood now.....

For all of you who have gotten raises recently, is this typical, or is it on the high side?

I suppose it depends on how much you were making

Nice, that's about 4.80 per hour extra.

Also over 9 grand a year in extra earnings before taxes, it's not bad.

It depends what are people in a role similar to you making? also as legendboy said depends on what you were making before.
if you're making 100K and you got 9K raise that's a good raise

if you were making 30K and got the same raise that's huge!

Well, not knowing what you earned before, there is no way to tell if it was a big raise or not.

If you were making 50K a year, then it is a good one. If you were making 100K then it is an "ok" one.

it is all about perspective.

i got a 4.5k raise after my 6 month interim review. not much, but its better than nothing. it sure doesn't change the pay stub around much though.

$800 per month is a 14.3% increase. Pretty damn good.

I got a 23% increase in wages one year. I went from making $22/hr to $27.12/hr. It would have made a bigg difference but my hours got severely reduced so I ended up making less that I was at the lower rate. :banghead:

After about 6 months the hours went back up and the tax man really liked me.

congrats....not for your raise but the fact that you asked for it. Companies generaly won;t offer up the money unless you make it an issue. I've told people that have worked for me in the past not to worry about what theperson next to you is doing or eraning. Worry about yourself and determine if you are getting paid what you are worth. It is a much better approach and it takes you farther..

My best raise in one year was $18,500. It was because I switched companies to a competitor and I landed with that company right when they were working on a large project so I got a bonus. The best raises come when you move around a bit...not too much but just enough.

I also just got a raise, be it for the next golf season, i'm now considered a "manager" so I went up like $5.00/h from what I was making this year. I'm pretty pleased with it, good job on your raise.
