Right now I have 2 10" JL Audio 10W0 subs runnin off a US Acoustics 100x2channel amp...sounds pretty good but just bought a amp that is way too powerful for the subs to handle...
So wondering what sub recommendations u people have?
Was thinking just upgrading the 10W0 to maybe 10W3's or Alpine Type R's...
Also would 1 12" sub sound louder than 2 10" subs?

2 10s would be louder...but also depends on box design and all that...
cant go wrong wit alpines, it'll give u a more rumblier bass, the jl's will prolly be less boom-ier...but will still sound good, i dont think u can go wrong either way...
EDIT: oops i meant jl not jbl, typo.

I never said anything about JBL :dunno: :dunno:
Right now the subs sound nice, crisp and clean bass, and pretty loud but its time to upgrade...I'm thinkin of goin JL Audio route again...as I dont want massively loud subs..want good, clean, non-distorted bass and somewhat loud
^^^ JBL or Alpine IMO would both be a bad choise and i'm sure i'm not the only one here that thinks so. Just go and listen to as many subs as you can, let your ears decide.

JBL makes some alright subs but if you are willing to buy online, you can find a lot better brands that aren't offered here.

Take a look at the kicker L7 subs. Absolutly amazing bass and sound quality, plus they don't need a big box.
JL 10W6v2's are a good choice. I would stay away from Alpine (I've got nothing but bad things to say about my last four alpine Subs).
JBL, despite what everyone is saying, makes some decent subs. If you ever got to hear them you'd know what I was saying.
Kicker is great too, though the L7's are expensive as hell and power hungry. Kicker Comp VR's are good quality subs, and would be my recommendation.

Opinions on car audio are useless, nobody ever agrees, and one brand is "always" better than the next. Go to a few shops, not just one! And listen to some for yourself. Subs that sound good to me, or the next guy, may sound like crap to you.

I'd say check out ddaudio.com or reaudio.com as they are 2 of the best sub manufacturers out there.

I can get you a decent price (my buddies work at Sounsaround) if you don't want to wait before then. Send me a PM on what you want and I'll let you know :)

Since 2morrow is Boxing Day, gonna go pick up either the Alpine Type R's or JL 10W3's...
Was doing some research between the 2 and kept seeing 4ohm and 2ohm...what does that mean? And what would be the best one to choose?I like my music loud and proud if that helps

i am anything but a car audio specialist, but nobody has answered your question yet and boxing day is pretty much now.
2 ohm and 4 ohm are the impedances ... you need to find out what impedance your amp runs at. for example; 100w rms x 2 @ 2ohm. the impedance that your amp can handle should be matched to the sub you buy.
so, if your amp is running at 2 ohms, you should buy a sub that is also 2 ohms. HOWEVER, many subs are dvc (dual voice coil) ... this basically means that its like wiring up 2 subs on each sub. the way that you wire them (series vs parallel) will change the impedance. to further complicate things, you have 2 subs. so if you had 2 dvc subs you would basically have the same wiring options as 4 svc (single voice coil) subs. gak!
there are obviously a lot of different wiring options at that point, but it all comes down to what impedance you are running your amp at. if you know that, im sure the guys working there will be able to help you out. in terms of sound quality, my understanding is that dvc vs svc and 4ohm vs 2ohm shouldnt really matter. simply different options for different amps.
sorry if that only served to muddy the waters a little more haha
bottom line: find out about your amp and let the guys who work there figure out the rest is probably the easiest solution.
