Well I needed to buy a new ride for work.
Doing allot of driving just in Calgary.
Anyways
Just want to know what the forum has to say about these cars.
Are there any body kits or lip kits avail?
What’s the bolt pattern?
Reliable?
Parts and motor or ecu upgrades.
I know it’s not the gls vr6, but I just want it to look slick and get some good gas mileage.

hmmm...the passat, as opposed to the golf and jetta, dont get alot of aftermarket support. but its do-able, ive seen 2 modded passats ever. or its a good choice if your wanting to be different. thank god for Concept-1. check them out, they have rims, seats, performance and styling mods available for the passat.

They are such nice cars, especially for the year and the price. My friend has a 1995 and it runs very well and has the nicest interior i've seen for an older and very affordable vehicle. Leather interior, dash looks good and all power options.

That said, he does have problems. His rear power window switches don't work anymore and neither do other electrical options. It's a VW though, that's expected. If you find one without these problems, they are cool cars.

good price, but why is it that they sell for less than golfs and jettas?

prime example:

http://www.canadatrader.com/result/detailinfo.aspx?ID=14250869

http://www.canadatrader.com/result/detailinfo.aspx?ID=14542031&pgno=1&srt=7

these aren't even extreme instances. Most passats = jettas in price. why? the two aren't even comprable

B3's have a terrible automatic transmission. They will fail among various other electrical problems..

The B5's (1998-2004) I've heard were always nice to drive. For some reason parts just seem to fail without a moments notice. Seems to be contrary to all the magazine reviews.

Non-VR6 models are 4x100 bolt pattern. VR6 has 5x100.
