I wasn't too sure where this would fit under, but anyways I've just began to redo the body on my RX-7 and wanted to share with the fellow beyonders who also have a drift king. The theme is the Carbon Creations RX-7.

Stage one
All stickers removed from body. Sticky residue removed with paint thinner. Cleaned. Blemishes and imperfections are sanded out. Remodeled doors to match the CC RX-7. Cut out stock tailpipe and will be making a 3-D tailpipe.

http://members.shaw.ca/tman809/DSC02119.JPG

Stage two
One layer of light primer and another layer slightly thicker applied. Waiting to be sanded and sprayed with first layer of Saphire blue.

Nice, post pics up when you start to work on yours. I removed the residue with paint thinner. Just fold a paper towel and hold it at the tip and flip it to get a little bit on there and begin to rub and soften it, then use the dry portion of the towel to rub away the residue. I wore medical gloves and probably went through about a dozen pairs because they rip really easily once they touch the thinner and it ends up like oatmeal if you rub it.

Kinda off topic, but I work for a Canadian Tire warehouse, and today we got a shitload of these Tyco (I think) RC cars, they were all Chrysler 300C, and they were PIMP, massive cars with huge rims, LED lights and even an MP3 player in the truck, it was SICK, I couldn't get one out to play with but have been told there not very fast.

Yeah Ive seen those, those are more of just an indoor toy. They dont really do much. The drift kings are AWD, have a ton of low end tq, and come with interchangeable rims/tires on a lightweight chassis with a nicad batt.

Yea, there all show and no go, I need to get me one of these drift kings, then we can all have races at the meets, also if enough beyonders get some and do them up, they can reprezent beyond at the car shows with them.

When I get mine, first mod will be a video camera pointing up, then when I'v done that, I'll head down to Cowboys or Coyotes.:poosie: :D

I'm liking the paint job

I don't drive the Drift King much now though, my new project is the Associated 18T. For a truck, it's got a bit of an identity crisis, rolling on 1/10 touring car wheels and fitted with a custom painted Porsche body :D

Body was prepped and masked for gloss black. Two layers of gloss black applied. Masking was removed and this is what it looked like. Waiting for gloss black to dry completely (maybe 2-3 days) until ready for touch-up and details.

Mikey_008
10-05-2005, 09:15 PM
Got the LED's at PM Hobbies...they have these LED light kit's for R/C cars! It's 10 bucks for the set!

I basically wired them seperately from the car and created it's own power source by hooking it up to a 9V battery and switch!

They're geared for low end torque, not speed. They have no problem spinning all 4 tires off the start but they run out of steam as the speed increases.

Everyone on this thread should bring their cars out on Wednesday to the meet if the weather is decent

infected
10-06-2005, 10:35 PM
Yes Market Mall should have them.

I dunno Redlyne, I'm kind of scared to drive mine around now becuase I've had it flip so many times before the paintjob...haha

Stage five
Reverse lights painted, side mirrors painted, intercooler painted, rear bumper support removed to fit muffler, scratch built muffler installed, spoiler painted and installed, front spoiler put back on just in case it bottoms out or crashes.

I'm loving the new look, it's so much better than when I first got it. However there is a slight problem... I'm kinda scared to drive it because I have a dirty feeling it's gonna plow right into the bush or flip once I take it out again. Oh well I'll get over it, but for now, we finished a bit ahead of schedule so here's a teaser for now until I get to take some pics tomorrow. Enjoy :)

Yes, it uses 7.2V NiCd batteries. It probably runs for about 1/2 hour on a charge.

infected you should just put that car on the mantle or something. Looks way too nice to drive. My S15 looks like it got run over by a truck. I took off my bumpers, mirrors, supports and anything else less than moderately important in an attempt to make it lighter

Once you get the hang of it you can do long slides without using much throttle which helps to save battery. When I first got the car I mashed the throttle all over the place, did 360s, burnouts you name it. Now I just cruise slowly when Im moving in to setup for an approach , I can get almost an hour out of a full charge now.

i don't know if any of the other bodys fit the Tyco Drift Kings, but Yokomo makes a drift kit (but its pretty pricey)... they stock some at PM Hobby or they can be ordered in... they have an FC kit... you can also get the body alone, but not sure if it fits the other RCs...
