Has anyone heard of these? Are they good?! How easy are rotors to install?

Thanks

Peter

KVR uses (for the most part I believe). OEM Rotors and X drills them.

Are they good - as in?
Look - Cool factor

Usage: May warp under usage
(there is now less material, and now there are holes which heat and cool at different rate)

Install
Rotors - If your not afraid of the ratchet set then it's pretty easy.

I don't care about "coolness": I am looking for something that will reduce brake fade, etc, etc, etc!

Thinking of using these rotors with Mintex Brake Pads... any good?!

I would look into slotted rotors instead. Not a fan of X drilled. Too many friends with warped rotors.

Mintex Brake Pads - No idea. Never herd of them.

Most Cross Drilled results in warping, because they are drilled to "look cool", original discs weren't designed for holes in them. Reduces strength significantly. Slotted is a lot better IMO, they're designed from the ground up as slotted.

I'm a ricer, im gonna be getting cross drilled / slotted rotors when it comes time to change rotors. :p

As for brake pads, hope to either get some Porterfield low dust pads or just get my gunmetal wheels sooner!

Peter, if you are going to get cross drilled rotors, get them cryo-treated first. Makes them WAY less likely to warp or crack.

As for mintex brake pads, I've heard nothing but good stuff about the red box pads for the subies. Good cold bite, no squealing and minimal dust and excellent stopping power once warm

And kenny, if you use really shitty pads you can save yourself a lot of money on gunmetal wheels :) Just brake hard a couple times an voila :D

KVR suspositly makes good shit. I've heard of people ordering there stuff and getting brembo rotors. Slotted rotors do not provide better cooling, just better braking performance as they cut the brakes pads making them have better bite. I ordered a set of rear cross-drilled rotors from them and am going to get them installed next week. Is there a place in town where you can get rotors cryo-treated?

As for mintex pads, they are susposidly pretty good now. I heard they had problems when they first came out. They need to warm up so they squeak until they get up to themperature. Porterfield pads do not need to warm up. They are good right from the get go.

The slots on the rotors do the same thing as the holes in a cross drilled rotor do. its got nothign to do with cooling or getting better bite at all. They are there to give gases trapped between the pads and the rotors a way to escape so you don't get pad fad. That they scrape the surface of the pads so they stay clean is just a side benefit, it isn't the primary function of the slots. Yes, slots and holes chew up pads. But if you are doing any hard driving you are probably already going through pads like there is no tomorrow anyways.

This is the place I was recommended for cryo-treating:

Integrated Cryogenic Systems
5110A 77th Ave SE
Calgary, AB T2C2Z2

403-279-2666
Fax: 403-236-3677

They do a fair amount of work for racers and they are quite highly regarded. I have no idea what they charge though.

Peter, instead of constantly worrying about pad life, warped rotors, etc. etc. avoid the crossdrilled/slotted rotors and just get a bigger brake upgrade kit. It'll give you that extra stopping power without sacrificing drivability/maintenace. Just something to consider.

You can avoid warped rotors by getting thicker rotors as well :) - That's what I have and it so far never had a warped rotor.

There's also a cheaper alternative and that is add ducting so that air gets into the brakes.

i'm thinking about slotted KVR's and cryo treat them. should be a improvement over stock. i've heard some stories about crossdrilled cracking under too much stress. pads, don't know yet. i've tried euro rotor and kvr and they dust like crazy.

First off KVR uses brembo rotors. second cross drilling just plain sucks and if you buy a set of rotors and then have them drilled they will crack for sure even under light use. You are reducing the surface area with drilled rotors and therefore braking power. The whole argument about gases etc... is a little dated with the material used in todays pads.

Slots are done to clean pads and do a good job of the but still can cause the rotors to crack. But the sloting is still not needed with modern pads and will cause pads to wear faster.

The best option is to use a solid rotor and have it cad plated and cryo treated with a good pad.

I prefer to user hawk or carbotech pads.

Hawks rule! Just a little dusty..

Anyone know where I can get hawk pads cheap? I was looking at HP+ but everywhere I go they are hella $$$$ compared to everything else.

Maybe if we can show enough interest as a group we can get tunerworks or contempory to get carbotech pads. they are just as good as hawks and do not cost as much.

You should check out my oem pads. I can almost guarentee myself a set of gunmetal wheels after 1 lap at race city! :banghead:

Same problem with the eurorotors. After doing about 20 laps at race city I was thinking to myself "Gee, I don't need to buy a set of Super Leggeras to get gunmetal wheels after all"

I had some Brembo Slotted Drilled Rotors + KVR brake pads. I like I like, it does help a bit for braking power but nothing will beat a set of nice calipers hehe

I bought my hawks from the US - The local shops can bite me for the outrageous prices they quoted me.

I can't see how $45 usd pads will cost me $225 Cdn.
Even with exchange. Sure, they have to make money too... But I ain't bending over.

All said and done. I paid $110 Cdn.

Like Redline said. Pad technology has come a long way.
The slotted will relativley keep the pads from glazing which is your enemy.

Don't forget Brakes don't stop the car - tires do :woot:

Try www.apexparts.com (Edmonton) They may be able to get you the pads.

I bought them from
www.howellautomotive.com

i paid $110 for the gsr hawk hp + from tunerworks and $115 for the same pads for a type r.

Tunerworks with me is a hit and miss.

Either that or their calculator needs new batteries.

Crossdrilled rotors may be prone to cracking, but they make awesome clocks! I bought this while I was in Banff on Victoria Day...
