IS 350 fast?

Just browsing some sites and came across this page. It says here this thing would do 5.1 to 100km/h and 13.7 quarter stock :confused: Is it me or is that fairly quick for a sedan.

It looks like a nice, peppy car for your dad or grandfather. Enjoy your youth as time goes by fast. 18 - 30 are probably the best years of your life, don't spend them trying to be 45 because when you are 45, all you can think about is being 25 again. id rather be 25 and drive a IS than a dressed up boosted econobox.......granted i dont know how old you are....but the threads about the car not about the qualifications you need to have one :rolleyes:

When buying my STi, I thought about getting a C5 corvette cause it was on sale (in anticipation of the C6). I didn't get it because it is such a mid-life crisis car.

Of course I would take an IS over my Neon.:rolleyes: For that kind of money there are much better alternatives like a 350Z or RX8 for a younger fella. Seeing a young guy in a Lexus is like seeing a 65 year old in an EVO. It just doesn't look right. "Look junior has daddy's car for a night on the town". That kind of look. That's just my opinion, you don't have to agree with it or like it.

BTW: My boosted economy car beats the shit out of the bus and since you don't have a car listed in your profile I assume your riding it.:poosie:

Well i dont think the weight is too bad... for comparision the 330i is about 75 or so pounds lighter and the G35 is only about 40 or so pounds lighter. 3500 pounds isnt light at all, but it's comperable with it's competitiors. Would I buy one? No, I like to have a 6 speed manual, but it's still a nice car none the less.

Lexus were essentially awesome Toyotas that NA never got. The soarer, the aristo, the Altezza, all amazing cars that have been very succeful in drift and gt competitions. One thing I love about Toyotas is that they can take mods and abuse like a champ I hope the new gen of Lexus are no diff.

He knows how I feel about it. His GS430 is very, very nice and I would surely like to own something like that later in life without a doubt. I especially like the growl from the V8 with his intake/exhaust mods & the build quality is exceptional with the exception of the paint. It is auto though which sucks and there's just something I can't put my finger on that just doesn't stir me. It just feels a bit too sterile, like it has been refined & perfected to the point that it lacks personality or excitement. He has always preferred large cars and I have always preferred smaller cars so maybe that's why I don't feel the same way about these cars that other people do. Most importantly he seems pretty happy with it and that's what counts.

Your brother drives a GS430. The IS-series has the youngest demographic of all Lexus vehicles (average buyer age of 29). The GS-series is a whole different ballgame.

It will be a fast car, with 300HP! however, can't trust those test number alone, the car they tested, is probaby a pre-production car? always give half a second +/- to those number. remember the F430? they tested for 3.5 second once, then 3.8 second, then 4.1 second? ( yeah, F1 shift, but 0.6 second is big diff on a 3~ second car!)

Anyway, high power and fast is not the mainly selling point for lexus, it is smooth, luxury, reliable.. PLUS fast! :thumbsup:

I don't think it will be near as fast as an Sti, however, much more luxury...

If Toyota Canada is selling IS350 for less then $50G, it will be a damn nice car!

Again, IS is targeting at young people, look at most the IS 300 on the road now, rarely see a 30 yr old man driving one! :D

Sorry. It was early. The IS does go after the younger demographic but the new models look even more tamer and generic than the original Altezza. I have yet to see anyone look remotely close to being under 30 driving an IS300.

from talking to my salesman at Lexus of Calgary the 250 will start in the 40K range with the 350 startigng in the 60k range...i think i may swap my is300 in for an is250 awd.

I think he mean ~$40K for 250, and $50K for IS350 .. won't be $20K diff.... a fully loaded 350, with nav etc .. may be close to $60K .. :D

Altezza and myself are both quite a few years under 30...

The IS250 will remain in the current price range of the IS300, that is known for sure. My guess is that the IS350 starts just under $50k (ie $48k - $49k) before options, freight, delivery, tax, etc. Well find out next week if I'm right or wrong, hehe.

Sorry to say but Judging by that one picture in the link given, it definitely looks like "an old person's car." You have the luxury cars that are aimed for younger people, then you have luxury cars that are aimed for the older generation. And the IS350 definitely appears to be aiming for the older generation. It kinda reminds me of the Toyota Solara. :barf:

Yikes. Right in the thick of BMW prices.

The new IS may be in direct competition with the 3-series, but I still believe they both cater to different crowds. Lexus has never been a driver's car I still don't see it now with the new IS350, as it still leans more as a luxury car.

If anything it matches against the TL and G35 better. Attracts similiar buyers..

The new Is is aimed directly at BMW. From my experience with Lexus and what I heard from friends that own BMW I would never buy BMW and will always buy Lexus. Infact I picked up my second lexus last week. RX 330. Lexus stands behind there vehicles like no other manufacturer. I can't wait till the Lexus launch party next week, its an amazing car and if I had more room in my garage there would definitely be one. The reason there cars are aimed at a higher age group is that not many young people can afford to spent $50,000+ on a car plus insure it at $10,000/yr. Thats good too because it keeps the resale on Lexus higher than most competitors.:thumbsup:

insurance doesn't cost more then $10,000 unless you've been a bad driver in the past.... plus you can get an IS300 for less then 50k. Lexus for me too though... high :bigpimp: value.

Ture dat....but when they release a car they don't consider what age group will buy it years later used....I can't imagine what an IS 300 would cost on insurance as a first time car.....I paid $400/month for a Sunfire GT when I was younger...and a perfect driving record......
