View Full Version : HID Discoloration

My driverside HID has a slight pinkish discoloration to it. It still shines but doesn't seem as white as the otherside. Does this mean my bulb is getting ready to die? It's been like this for a while now.

Does anyone know where I can go (besides dealership) to purchase a replacement or upgraded set of HID bulbs? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bulb Models are D2R

Well, I only have a kit, not factory stuff but that exact same thing happened to me before mine stopped working...it was the igniter or ballast, not the bulb.

From what I have been told, yes. Mine is doing the exact same thing. Its probably been like that for just over a year now though. Sometimes, I can even see a flicker in the bulb, but only from the driver's side.

No idea on replacement bulbs, I am hoping mine will last until I trade in the car

Swap the bulb with the passenger side and see what it does.

^ Yup, first swap the bulbs from each side. If the same bulb still sucks, you can go to www.xenonfactory.com, a place in Canada that sells phillips shit and get a new bulb. Their are often lots to be had for a good price on ebay too. The only problem is that as bulbs age the colour temperature goes up, so if the bulb that is still good on your car is a couple years old the new one might be whiter.

If you switch them and its still the same side that sucks, switch the ballasts (I have no idea if this is easily done on your system, but if they easily unplug, switch them). This will help find bad wiring.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll switch'em around this weekend and see how it goes. Hopefully it's just the bulb. Not sure how hard it will be though to switch it. But thanks again.

If anyone else has any more input please let me know. Thanks.

**********UPDATE***********

I just got off the phone with Lexus of Calgary. The gentleman there checked with a tech about the discoloration and said "yes it is a bulb issue, not a ballast issue" PHEW is what I was thinking until I asked him how much for a replacement bulb........

HOLY MOTHER FUCKER is all I can say.......

$302.90 EACH!!!!!!!

That's just ridiculous markup. The same OEM bulbs used by Lexus can be had for less than half of that...

$120 USD on xenonfactory.com. No duty to be paid as they are in Ontario.

I've got a couple of brand new D2R phillips bulbs. I'll sell 'em for $200 for both if you're interested.
