-5 spd
-2.2 L V4 Turbo
-157,000 km
-front wheel drive
-still gets 40+ mpg on highway
-is still fulla p*ss and vinegar/hauls butt

-sunroof
-A/C (needs R134 Retro-Fit conversion, I have all parts to do this)

Bump for a fun car with 145 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque stock.

PS: Inline 4, not V4

Hi Penguin,

What's the difference between an Inline 4 and V4? Is Inline 4 better? Thanks :)

It's the way the block is cast. Inline means each piston is behind the next like so:

1 2 3 4

A v looks more like this

1 5
2 6
3 7
4 8

4 cylinders are always inline. Piston travel is up down vertically. In a v it is ususally on a 45 degree angle so if you are looking at the engine from the front it would look like

| or V and piston travel would be on the lines

Some saabs (saab 95 & 96 & sonett I believe) and some old Ford Taunus's (europe only, I think) came with a V4. Also, various honda motor cycles used a V formation 4 cylinder.

Anyway, back to the probe GT. With just a boost controller and chip from injecttech (injecttech.com) you can hit 180+ whp and 250+ lb-ft of torque at the wheels. (see dyno chart under products)
I have the same 2.2L turbo engine in my mazda 626 GT. 15lbs of boost, ECU chip, 2.5" turbo back exhaust, intake. It's quite fun for a 2800lb car :D

4 cylinders are always inline.

There are V4s but I've only heard of them in motorcycles, like the Interceptor and Magna.

Um. Good luck selling your Probe! I still miss the swanky 80's dash on mine.

Thanks for the explanation - I'd always wondered what the "V" in V4 of V6 stood for, so it's the formation - that's interesting to know.

And yes Penguin, it is a lot of fun..........when I bought my SUV, I nearly crapped at how sluggish it felt (Escape XLT) by comparison - I do a lot of highway driving and when it came to passing some slow turkey going up even a slight incline, my Escape sucked compared to how my Probe hauls butt. It's been a very fun car to have and I've got the For Sale sign sitting here on my coffee table...having a hard time actually putting in the car *sniff sniff* - it's my baby, you know LOL

I don't want to split hairs or anything, but since the discussion was opened....horizontally opposed, or 'flat 4' is another configuration for a 4cyl motor. You can find those in BMW motorcycles, Old air-cooled VWs, Subarus, and Porsches. Porsche also makes/made a flat 6. I can't actually think of a car with V4.

Well maybe you should buy that one, then. Frankly though, it looks more like GL to me, not a GT.

Unlike that person, I'm not willing to just give away a very good car. What's their engine like? Is there any rust? I don't see any mention of it having A/C (mine does), I don't see it mentioning power windows, power seats (mine has), I see no mention of stereo (mine has premium stereo), does it have all the bells and whistles inside including the in-dash digital computer that shows fuel economy, distance to empty, estimated time of arrival, external temp, etc etc.... I see it's an automatic...who the hell wants a sportscar that's an automatic? Yuck.

Have they changed the timing belt @ 100,000 km or is that way overdue? Have they been faithful with oil changes? There's gotta be a reason why someone would sell a car for that cheap. I can guarantee that mine has been meticulously cared for, that it's not a lemon.
