The smart roadsters are nice, I saw them in London (not the brabus version) they seem like fun cars to boot around town.

$40000cdn for 101hp? Doesn't seem worth it. You could buy two smart cars for that much.

It was in the Herald last week. However it was never posted on Beyond.

I'm not sure i could ever bring myself to drive a car that small.....it just doesn't seem like you would survive the crash between you and a shopping cart it just has so little to it......lol but if you ever watch the crash tests with some other smart car (can't remember which one) but those things are like bricks, they just smash their way into other cars its kinda funny to watch, but still even if the car holds up, the amount of force that would get applied to you would do enough damage to your insides to kill ya

Wrong, the car is very well engineered, the crumple zones are effective and this is a safe car. There have been a couple of serious crashes involving these cars and I've heard nothing but good things about how wll they protect occupants.

That being said, the car is too strange to drive for me to handle. I'm not a big fan of the car, but they're safer than you'd think.

I remember sitting in a SMART when they first came to the Calgary Auto Show... and all I could do was laugh   They are freaking TINY

And yes, I have watched the Fifth Gear episode where they crash one at 70 miles per hour and the passenger cage barely even budges

I saw one of these at the autoshow in TO last spring. Made me double a triple-take.

Yeah....the impact is actually distributed all the way to the back....even the seat absorbs some impact (without hurting you) it's crazy. I've seen a whole post crash-test analysis (head on vs. a Benz E class) it fared very well.

Wow I would have not expected anything like that, I mean just from a physics perspective, if something that small gets hit by something so much bigger then it (like most other cars) the car would have to crumple just a ton to absorb that much momentum and inertia, but when I was looking at the crash tests it seemed to stay quite solid and rigid, which would then lead to the occupents being subjected to a very large number of G's when the car suddenly stops and they don't......

But if there have been documented tests and statistics that show that people are safe in crashes like that, it just shows how much more engineers know about distributing energy then I do lol...

I would almost like to see those crash-test analysis, it would be pretty cool to see just what kind of things are employed to make it a safe car.
