I need help finding detailed pictures of 240s with the "truck" conversion. As some of you know i am using my wrecked 240 to learn and get credits in autobody. If i can get some more detailed pictures of any 240's turned into "trucks" i can also learn custom fabrication. The car is writen off so i wont be driving it, I just want to learn.

Something like this.

I need shots on what they did with the "box" and the sides (window) and if possible the interior looking back.

Your help is appreciated

Im willing to bet they made a tube frame type thing. Think rollcage. Then once they had done this they mightve fibreglassed over it. The Bed's prolly some sort of metal, put in with fibreglass.

So you'll need access to a welding machine, some fibreglass/resin, and some mad skillz.

I really like the look of it for some reason. It looks like a tough project though...

first step would be weld in alot of bracing and a roll cage, the roof of a car is a major part of the car and alot of structural ingetratie of the vehical is designed into the roof. I would brace it and make a cage then take the hatch off and remove the rear windows, then chop the angular pilar that goes from the top of the front window the the rear of the car. Then from their you would just have to fab up a rear firewall and something to smooth the top of the bed so it looks proper.

In theory it sounds pritty easy and the accualy work itself would be pritty easy, its just getting it to look right is the hard part. The main thing with this project is making sure you brace everything well enough so that it doesnt twist and bend outta shape when u start cutting.

O and good luck with ur project and post pics of your progress as you go.

you better be a mad skilled welder and fabricator if you wanna pull it off! Have money and a bank account to purchase tubing and have a tube bender! GOOD LUCK

Just because the KA24DE is a truck motor, doesn't mean you should make the car into a truck.

I personally think it'd be an interesting project, and it certainly has a nice result.

Good luck mate.

when your doing it, it would be a waste to make such a nice rollcage for a car thats never going to be used again anyway, so just make a rough cage and then practice your fabrication off of it. I dont think youd even need it to be structurally rigid for your practice project. honestly if it gives you some experience doing it i say go for it:thumbsup:

First step is you need a coupe.

Second step it to cut the C pillars off and leave the B pillars there

Third step is to cut the roof at the back edge of the door glass

fourth step is to make a rear window frame and weld it to the B pillars.

fifth step is to take out the back seat and trunk and shit and just weld in some sheetmetal for your truck bed.

You dont need a coupe for it.

Like tanner (type S) said, it wont be used again except to maybe drive it to my buddies place to strip it of its motor and shit so i think just maybe tossing in some added strenght across the b pillars, take the glass and hatch off and start cutting and welding. Then just "roll" the edges of where the hatch was and the newly cut part over into the "bed".

Like i said if i do this it would just be a project to learn some custom fabrication. Hell it doesnt need to be perfect its just something to get me credits, if it turns out looking good thats a bonus.

So no one knows of any close up pictures? I still have to present the idea to my teacher and in order to do that i need to have a "plan" so pictures would really help

This better be a joke... This type of project takes a lot time, and the semester ends in a few months. Unless you plan on spending days after school for hours until the end of the year trying to wrap it up. With the loss of the hatch you lose a ton of support, that needs to be regained with a rollcage, if you dont put one in your car will probably collapse just from driving it. Why would you waste money on tubing, considering that the school doesnt even have a tubing bender. It'd be a cool project either way, it's just extremely unrealistic being that's it's soley relied on the high school shop.
