November 15th is always a good date if you want to preserve winter tires. It will generally snow at least once before then but the snow usually doesn't stick around until mid november.

I suppose it depends on a few things, such as...

Are you current tires summer-only or all-season?

How quickly can you make the change if the snow comes without warning? Do you have to book it into a tire shop or can you do it at home in the morning before leaving for work, school, etc?

My daily car has summer tires and I don't want to wake up one morning and be stuck, soooooo I will be changing over this coming weekend (Oct 30th).

the day after the first snowfall that sticks...I only work a few mins away from work so a short drive on my summers won't be too bad.

And while its on the hoist...time to crank the coilovers back up to stock height too...:(

I put my snow tires on the beater last week. Too lazy to do it in the cold. The months worth of wear on the 14s is not a concern...

I know a guy *cough 7thgenvic* who curbed his car after the first snowfall on his summer tires. haha. Better safe than sorry. :)

Mine are going on next weekend.

dont be dumb and do it right when it snows do it before.....i work at kal tire and as soon as it snows we get a million ppl wanting to get winter tires and when we tell them it is going to be a 4 hour wait they freak out......

get them before, just check the weather station, when you see the temp falling and posibale fluries then go get tires.....you can even get them now it is not going to make a big difference you will still have tread for when the big dump hits. people think if winter tires touch the pavment they will be bald right away.

just think of it this way....if you get the tires now then you will have a 30 min wait if you get them when it snows you probally wont have tires for a week ( unless your camping out at the front doors at 7:30 am )

Im thinking early to mid november is a good time for me! I dont have to worry about the lineups at the tireshops too much since i have two sets of rims so the later the better.

I put my wifes on yesterday. Also decided to give her a nice rotor upgrade and new brake pads too. LOL. Car drives like a dream now. I couldn't believe how badly rusted the rotors were when I took them off. It was UGLY!

As for mine, I won't put them on until it snows. Then I'll pull it in the garage and do it...Probably not until November sometime.

I've been keeping an eye on the week long forcast... Kinda got a scare last thursday was it? when they said snow was comming and it started, but didn't amount to anything.. I imagine within the next few weeks for sure I'll switch over, gotta warm garage and will do it myself, can't beat that...

Put mine on last week because don't want to wait til it's too cold.

+ First snowfall is when everyone forgets how to drive. The wear on the rubber is justified.

people that try and predict calgary weather based on previous years are silly ;)

just keep an eye on the forecast.

Mine went on today. Better to change them went you can feel your hands vs freezing them off with a tire iron and jack.

I just store mine anyhow on my winters, but I do bring it out over the winter when you get the clear dry days.

So I don't really care about preserving my winters because they dont' really see that much snow anyhow.

isn't it supposed to snow on thurs/fri? is that supposed to last thru the weekend

I've had mine on for awhile. Yes, they're wearing down because there's no snow, but it's already too cold to rely on summer tires. If it's raining at night when it's 3 degrees out, summer tires are gonna be way worse than winter tires.

i know how ya feel there, also work at a shop, but in reality snow tires are designed for outside weather temps of 6 degrees and cooler, whether there in snow on the ground, it's the warm pavement that wears them out faster (7 and up)
