Any of the designers on this board own a wide format printer? by wide format i mean either 11x17 borderless prints or 13x19 borderless prints.

Do you guys know which local stores carry a large selection of WideFormat Printers and how much they generally run?

thanks.

I only deals with HP, I know 11X17 inkjets that usually starts @ $1000-$1200. Beyond that, you're probably looking at plotter size which starts @ $5K.

I've worked with Epson Color Stylus3000 printers. Max. size was 16.5" x 23.5". Maybe you can find a used one.

HP Deskjet 9800...at Staples/Compusmart.

Cheapest wide format probably available.

I tried it recently, speed and print quality was better than the 9650.

I've never used it for wide format printing though, but it's worth a shot.

Otherwise it's HP Designjet's series or the Epson one specified above.

Canon also has a few..

This one's discontinued.. the HP 1700D, but you can still find it in some places in Canada... costs about $600-700 CDN and also has a auto duplexer. It took me awhile to find this one, but it's really nice.

took a look at the deskjet 9800. problem with HP is they havent figured out that they shouldnt use the one cartridge colour system. If one colour runs out.. you are basically screwed. you have to go buy a whole new cartridge even if your other colours are still in good shape.

I much prefer canon's 7 -8 colour system. Especially when there are compatible inks which only cost 9-10$ per colour when the specific colour runs out 0_o!!

anyways. keep your eyes peeled. Right now im looking at the Canon i9000/9050 which retails for 600$ cdn.

Just tried an HP CP1700D, loud, heavy, and seperate ink cartridges, uses HP 10s and 11s.

Quality looks exactly the same as a 9650, but the ink is seperate in 23ml cartridges i think. 1 Black, 3 colour cartridges.

Costs about $40 for each ink cartridge.

Faster than the 9650, but the quality from what I remember is not as great as the 9800.

Still good for my purposes and retails for approximately $700 if you can find it at any retailer.
