Half-Life 2: Lost Coast Available Now
October 27, 2005, 4:10 pm · Alfred Reynolds

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is now available for play for all Half-Life 2 owners.

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, a single-player level custom-created to showcase High-Dynamic Range lighting (HDR) in the Source engine, is available now to all owners of HL2. As a technology showcase, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast's system requirements are very high. During installation, Steam will prompt you if your system does not meet the recommended configuration. We hope you enjoy it.

It looks brilliant, and it reminded me of how fun HL2 was.. but that being said, FEAR tops it in the gunfights. Its too bad that FEAR's story sucked and was completely uninvolving, and those stupid tryhard scary moments (its like the Ring except even more played out)... someone should take FEAR's combat and stick it into HL2. but DAMN. No screenies of the church? I will grab some tomorrow. The church looked amaaaazing.

here are some that I took...

its kinda cool actually, I like how they have the whole rolling cloud effect going, it really gives a sense of reality. Although its to bad the resolution cant be bumped up to the point of HDTV, or mabey i just need to play this with a CRT...

anywhoo Enjoy

are you sure you can't run it at HD resolutions? I've played regular Half Life 2 in both 720p and 1080i and it looks fuckin AMAZING. Lost Coast should work too. You need to hook it up to your TV, set up your graphics card for HD resolutions (if it is an Nvidia this is easy) set your desktop to 1080i, then launch HL2 go into the video menu and set the aspect ratio to 16:9 and then you will be able to choose from ____x720 and ____x1080, but you can't play games in a higher resolution then your desktop is set to...

Hahaha, I thought for a second there that they'd made a map of the island on Lost! (You know, the TV show!)

I feel so let down, in an odd sort of way. :nut:

When you say it's short, how short? I thought HL2 was short. :P

short as in you can finish the whole thing in half an hour even if you're slow. Its short, but then again, its just a demo released to show off the new graphics enhancements. Turn on the commentary in the game and it'l explain what they did and stuff.

Man that's pretty awesome. Graphics like that used to only for point and click adventure games like Myst and such. Having that in an FPS is a dream come true. The character model looks great. There's gotta be something wrong when you can shoot or smash character models that look that realistic and detailed

Okay, so the graphics exist, now about some REAL gameplay (not your standard shooter story) that actually lasts for a good bit of time (longer than HL2). Like Deus Ex or something, with these graphics a game like Deus Ex would have the complete immersion experience..
