Anyone know what year 850 Turbos were the fast ones with 0-60 tims in the mid to low 6s and 1/4 miles in the mid 14s?

Was it 1994? 1996?

I know one version even had 260+hp

I think it was the 96ish t5's....but I could be wrong.

Yeah, probably the T5's. Or maybe it was a T5-R. I can't remember :dunno: Where's Ranger_X31? He seems to know lots about Volvos, he'll probably know.

For an 850, I would guess 96. The S70's were pretty much the same too (I think)

I think it was 96 T5-R, I've only seen one in town though so there probably pretty rare in winnipeg, great cars.

Yes the T5-Rs came out in 1996 with 260+hp. Thanx. :)

What YRs had the 240hp motor?

I heard it doesn't matter if you have a T5-R or a regular 850 Turbo. Both can be made to put out over 300hp easily.

Looking for a winter project. :)

Well they have a stock t5-R coming out with 300hp soon. :D I just got the brochure and it looks pretty sweet. I test drove a s60 t5 I think it was, 268hp and it was pretty fun, didn't end up buying it though.

I still have a 1990 740 GL with 250 000km on it and it's running strong, it's slow but it's still a special car, volvo's are the shit.

People in Winnipeg have forgotten how fast these cars can be.

I saw a red station wagon 850 Turbo smack around a 94-96 style mustang with headers.

thats why I want one. :D

And the S60 R's just came out. Volvo mailed me a brochure on that.

Are the 94 850 Turbos the same motor?

You all suck!

The only year of the T5-R was 95, and only about 2500 of them were made. Only one I know of around here is a yellow wagon in Edmonton.

That was the first year of the T5, I believe it put out between 240 and 250 Hp.

After that, they called them either an 850R, 850 T5 or S70R/V70R (nomenclature changed, but cars were the same until the new V70 came out, I think in 01) All of these were essentially the same as the T5-R, same HP, I think the AWD models with a T5 were up to around 260HP, but don't quote me on that.

The regular turbo motor is very similar. The T5 got bumped down from 2.4 to 2.3L, and had a high pressure turbo put in. Both engines will handle 300 wheel HP on stock internals, but I suspect some parts of the T5 are probably beefier, not sure.

The new S60R and V70R coming out have 300HP, AWD and 6 speeds
