Saw this while browsing the internet. Not sure if it's a repost, but it looks pretty damn cool. :)

Yeah, looks like some sort of polymer.

In the 2nd picture, there's a reflection, so it looks like a clear plexiglass or something similar clear material? What's out there that's strong enough?

One of the biggest issues with this though is there's zero brake cooling / ventilation available.

lexan (bullet resistant glass) would definately be strong enough to support the wheel. well really any thing can be strong enough if engineered right...remember the popsicle stick bridges that could hold 600lbs? it's all in the design.

LOL wierd , but you think if you are showing off your brake rotors , you would get some after market ones :D

those look pretty good IMO.
i would sport them, but only if i had brake rotors first, and reasonable cooling like you guys mentioned already.

I bet those rims are a bitch to keep clean tho. :) Look neat enough, but I don't think I'd buy them, just me tho. :)

I'd be worries about scratch and scuff marks....but like Jamez said, upgrade the brakes if your gonna do such a thing. Maybe the owner ran out of money after the wheel purchase.....

for cooling they could just put some scoop that directs air underneath and into the area of the rotors haha

Ooops fucked up haha.

still, you would need some area to put all that heat, it could only go one way with those rims...you can play a bunch of cold air through there, but it wont be able to cool fast enough just going out the back side...

And yes, it needs way bigger brakes..they look like the size of mine

Apparently those rims need to be changed every once in a while because the clear material begins to yellow and crack from all the heating and cooling. Definitely a bling wheel.

i'd worry about them melting from the heat the brakes produce, or if not melting, turning cloudy, after all brake dust is pretty corosive stuff

lastprodigy
11-04-2005, 01:33 AM
if its strong enough to do it like that, then they should jsut make clear spokes!

Looks alright, but cooling issues :thumbsdow

that sure would be trippy to see driving by you...

 for the visual effect but :thumbsdow for the practicality and cleaning

GoChris

good for show, bad for practicallity imo.

looks a couple inches thick so its probably strong enough...until you smack a curb good, then haha bye bye wheel.

seer_claw
11-04-2005, 12:19 PM
It looks kind of cool, but not a style that I would put on my car. And werd to the installation of aftermarket brakes...it would look a heck of a lot better.

thats gay
you cant clean the inside of the wheels and the brake dust will just get caked on

Supa Dexta

Hardly^ the main purpose of rims for a lot of people is the added attention, and those would def. get some attention...

and yes, I know all about added strength, reduced weight.. etc.. But looks has a lot to do with it..

:)

Rathmar

If you're going for looks I think a clear rim is really lacking in that department, I mean yeah, you'll get a lot of attention at first but after they turn yellow that's just ugly.

hmm u could tint the plastic to look like the rest of ur car too.. kinda a cool idea,

if you make a rim like that it has to be a 3 piece, all you need is just a stack of those lexan centers and your good to go :D
