I have a friend who is an EMT and is looking for an AWD or 4WD vehicle. He is ONLY looking for new and would like to stay under $30,000. $35,000 would be an absolute max. Also, NOT looking for something that is a complete base model. I am just trying to compile a complete list for him at this point, which we will narrow down as we go. Japanese and Domestic only. No Korean vehicles :)

Here is what I have so far, I just wanted to see if I was missing anything:

Chevrolet Equinox / Pontiac Torrent
Jeep Liberty
Jeep TJ
Mazda Tribute / Ford Escape
Nissan XTerra
Nissan X-Trail
Saab 9-2X / Subaru Impreza
Saturn Vue
Subaru Legacy
Toyota Matrix XR 4WD
Toyota Rav4

Honda CR-V
Subaru Imprezza
Volvo (not sure the model, but has AWD around his price range)

Oh right, Honda CR-V haha... I got the Impreza, its bundled with the 9-2X. The S40 AWD starts at $40,000 so I did not include it in my search.

The equinox is a gas pig.

Audi A3... not sure how much or when the AWD model is coming. Could already be here.

Its out of his price range. He is looking at MAX $35,000. Ideally, somewhere around $30,000.

Thanks though :)

What about the G35x sedan? If you can find one used it will be the best bang for the buck.....265hp, awd, alot of room for family and it's a infinity(PIMP) that would be my choice.

A new G35x is mid-40s.

If i was in his position, i would go for a fullyloaded x-trail...i know its near the top end of his spending limit, but it's well worth it...and it's actually assembled in japan aswell:thumbsup:

Aerio SX AWD. lol is loaded with everything - around 26,000 incl tax. Fully loaded, nice interior, decent power. within his budget for sure...rare on the road too. :D

Audi A4?? AUDI A3?

^ I highly doubt either of those can be had for 35K or less new. Out of the selections you have, I would go for the Xterra for an SUV and the WRX/9-2X for a car. Best choices out of that group IMO.

Probably could find a good deal on Rav since the new ones are coming in..

Chrysler 300 AWD
SRP ~35K and with the end of year clearance it should put you well within the budget you're shopping for. You may even be able to snag the Touring or Limited AWD version within your price range.

The others I'd choose from are the ones you already have listed.

Why has he ruled out slightly older cars? For 35k, you can buy some very nicely equipped 2003s and 2004s!

I think because he has better finance options. I already asked him about the used route (2003+) but he has decided he wants new. It would be his first new vehicle so its something he is looking forward to.

how about that new Jeep?

My dad just went to check out the new Chrysler Jeep Grand Cherokee. A well equipped V6 was priced at 32k + taxes with 0% financing. I think thats your best bet right now, if he's okay with domestics.

I think he would prefer an import (that would be my influence) but you are right, the Grand Cherokee V6 would probably be the best bet (although, they haven't proven so reliable in the long-term).

I think we pretty much covered everything in his limited range. Thanks for all of the input
