I went all through those links that were posted for the other guy, but I still cant figure this shit out. Something just isnt working for me. Heres an easy question maybe someone can help me out on, and also explain to me why they are what they are:
Indicate whether each of the following substances could act as an oxidizing agent, a reducing agent, or possibly both.
a) Ba 2+
b) Co 2+
c) Se
d) Cs
I need to get this assignment done tonight, so all help is appreciated.

I believe A and B have to be Oxidizing agents because they get reduced when they gain electrons, since i dont think they can lose any more electrons
i think C and D are Reducing agents because they get oxidized
dont know whcih ones could be both...
i think A would be something like:
Ba2+ + 2e- ------> Ba
C would be something like:
Se ---------> Se2+ + 2e-
dunno about the charges i just made them up
