You'd need a screen + GPS unit, I don't think there's any DIN nav/screen units yet.

No the tv tuner does not work off of your car antenna. And if you are already looking at getting the in dash unit put that money towards the joyride system it does one whole hell of alot more stuff for you.

I've looked into the Joyride system before getting my Clarion DVD/Alpine PowerNAV combo. The Joyride is basically an enhanced version of the Microsoft AutoPC... pretty much abandoned by Microsoft and development is now totally on Clarion's side (thus no more MS / AutoPC name affiliation, even though it's the same hardware). Now, that's up to you to decide if it's a good thing or now, I've seen too many MS projects fail after they abandoned them.

For the money you're paying for an all out Joyride system, you can get what I have, which gives a bigger screen, MP3, DVD capabilities, etc.

i cant really afford the joyride system its twice as much as the indash screen (joyride - 2600 in-dash lcd - 1300) =/ unless someone can get me a good deal :)

You're not going to find anything cheaper... maybe you should look at the portable units? I have a Garmin Street Pilot Pro III or something, I think my dad bought that for around $2k.

You can get the SPIII for $1299 here.
http://www.prairie.mb.ca/sp3_d.htm

Youll need to buy a canadian CD for it too (i never tried it with this, so not sure how good detail it is)...

I never got it working very good with the internal antenna. You will probably want to invest in an external one as well. I guess this will depend for you, as it can depend on your car/where you mount it.

Ive used the unit before. Its not bad, but is sometimes a pain to use.

But Im guessing this is about as absolutely cheap as your going to find in a color GPS receiver (for now anyways...)

The SP3 contains all maps for Canada that has been made so far by Navtech. Works real well in most vehicles on the dash.

Alpine PowerNav
Pioneer AVIC-90DVD

The 2 most popular choices. About $2300-$3000 depending on what kind of deal you can get. The Alpine is about $100 more expensive because you need the $100 AV kit to hook up to non Alpine LCD screens.

I bought my PowerNav + AV Kit from Audio Concepts Mobile. They sold me old stock though, kinda sucks, got a Nav disc from 2000. Missing some roads here and there, and no 7-11's in the Calgary database! If you buy from them, MAKE SURE they get you the latest model + disc.

do you have the site?

rage2
03-06-2003, 03:39 PM
I don't think they have a site, try the phone book and give 'em a call.

is there a name for the av kit? or its just called av kit? What company made this? is it just the yellow white and red wires?

rage2
03-06-2003, 03:48 PM
yep, Yellow and white RCA outs (mono audio). They'll know if you ask for the nav and the AV kit to install on other screens. I had to school 'em on it looking thru their catalog (they thought the alpine nav ONLY works with alpine screens).

If you wanna trade, I'll take the 935 and you can have my 925. I could use the additional AV input.

Daaaaaaaaamn! Rage thats a nice screen. I've got an old Clairon LCD, not as flashy as that screen though. One of the 1st models I think. I dont drive enough to use GPS though. More for just music videos, movies... etc etc
