Reminds me of this guy that was in one of my senior seminars...we have to intro ourselves and state what year of study we were in..and he told us he'd been at the University since 1992! And was still going for his undergrad!

Our prof said HE was still going for his undergrad at that time! LOL

I think the U of C has a disincentive to steer people away from taking too long to finish a degree.

Your course credits expire after X years, depending on the faculty. So the courses you took a long time ago won't count toward your degree.

and the true shame/maybe good thing is that through out this all, this wanker has said hes only going to learn, NOT to party and have a good time. Van Wilder you are not sir. Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame and get out of here.

What kind of degree though? My bachelors in marketing takes ~4 years depending on requested class load. Most bachelors are ~4 years

Naw, he means that its capped at 7 years. I can't remember if it was 7 or 8, but if I didn't finish my degree in that time, I would have to retake first year all over again as credit for those courses would have expired.

Course credits expire after 10 years. At least that's the case in Haskayne.

When I was studying CompSci at the University of Manitoba there was a guy who was in his mid 30s and still in school.

He had a masters in Pure Math (which turned out to be useless), then he got his Law degree and decided he didnt like being a lawer so he returned and did his CompSci degree and actually went on to finish his PhD.

Hes now a professor at a university in Ireland.

Isn't that what every prof's career is like? Reminds me of Holden at the U of C, the guy's got 2 PhD's now

Except this guy was only work as a TA while he was in school. He just became a prof in 2003 and I was in university 8 years ago (while he was in his 4th year of CompSci).

Holden is great!

Seriously, school is awesome. MUCH better than working in the real world...well, at leat that is what I found after graduating with my undergraduate...most likely because I wasn't in something that I really had a passion for....

Come on peeps....

My first class at U of C was 1988... my last was 2002 :dunno: whats the big deal over just 12 years ;)

Now I am thinking of a law degree as well :nut:

I don't get it, 12 years is not long at all.

If you do a B.Sc. in 4 years, a M.Sc. in 3 and a Ph.d in 3 thats 10.

That is not at all unusual. Many people take > 4 years for an undergraduate B.Sc. especially if its an honours degree, you almost need a minimum of 5 years.

This is for FULL TIME schooling. Not everyone can afford to go full time all the time.

^^^ 12 years is a long time to go continuously without getting any kind of degree.

I could spend 12 years at U of C no problem, I'd get a history degree, maybe a literature degree, then maybe a business degree, take a waft of options and learn a couple foreign languages, and then graduate when I'm 35. Not so bad.
