"Mazda Canada Announces Price for 2004 RX-8 Sports Car
Mazda Canada Inc. today announced its RX-8 sports car, equipped with either a four-speed automatic transmission and rated at 210-horsepower or with a six-speed manual transmission and rated at 250-horsepower, will be priced at $36,795 when it goes on sale in June.

In Canada, the RX-8 will be offered in two, well-equipped, trim levels. Standard features include cloth seats; 18-inch alloy wheels; four-wheel disc brakes with ABS; front and side airbags and side curtains; air conditioning and fog lights. Fully loaded, the RX-8 adds heated leather seats (electrically adjustable for the driver); automatically dimming rear view mirror; Torsen limited-slip differential’ Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Xenon headlamps. The GT trim level will be available for $39,595.

“The RX-8 delivers innovative solutions to traditional automotive challenges such as packaging, design and powertrains,” said Mike Benchimol, president of Mazda Canada Inc. “And once again we dispel the myth that sports cars cannot be affordable.”

The RX-8 continues Mazda’s design and engineering tradition, merging unique and dramatic styling with true sports car performance. The RX-8 comfortably accommodates four adults, while delivering the kind of sports-car driving dynamics sure to capture the imagination of driving enthusiasts worldwide. The vehicle is the latest in a long and historic line of rotary-powered automobiles, the first of which Mazda introduced more than 30 years ago."

well all i can say is duhhhhhhhh. It makes total sence that it would be rotary. I dont know why i thought it was a conventional motor...

Hmm, I dunno, even Roseanne Bar gives me a bigger chubby than that car for some reason...
I like rotaries, I think my kidneys are even rotor shaped, but there is something about that car I just don't like....maybe because its not a "7"....Maxt

I agree, I dont like the style of the new one at all, looks like a cross between an S2000 and a Jeep Liberty, with those big feners, looks like ass, but oh well, thats my opinion. Great value tho!!! Wonder how long it will take for the mods to start pouring out, Twin Turbos and all that great stuff.

I can't see any turbo upgrades for it coming, not with a 10:1 compression ratio.. expect headers, catbacks and intakes.... and Porting of course..
It will be only a matter of time till someone yanks the renesis out and drops in a 20b-rew..
I want a new 7 dammit...Maxt

i think the 350z is a worth replacement of the 300zx, but the rx-8, even according to mazda, is not the replacement for the rx-7.
Thank god it isnt...cause its a torqueless wonder (even more so than the rx-7's) and it doesnt look nearly as nice as the last gen Rx-7's in my opinion.
However, with all that said, haha..i think its a pretty cool car. On its own merit, not in comparison to rx-7's.
I wouldnt mind it as a cruiser. Im sure its pretty fun to drive.

Is it me or do alot of the new cars these days really lack personality? (and by personality, i don't mean unreliability;) )

Everything seems so reserved compared to their predecessors...with the acception of alot of european cars of course. Mercedes and that bad ass 5.5 v8 s/c and the even meaner v12 twinner:burnout:

Actually rx-7's have a good amount of torque compared to most imports. The FD has 220lb/ft out of a 255hp engine. And my gsl-se when its was stock had 135ft/lb out of a 135hp engine. Not bad for an N/A 1.3L engine. Its not as good as nissans VQ engine or anything but respectable atleast.

True, not bad in comparison to other imports, but when compared to the other cars in its class, a bit lower and not as flat a curve.

Because it's a piece of garbage, I saw a prototype version of it last fall, the 350zx is so much better than the rx8, but then again they arent even in the same class. The Toyota Supra is supposed to be released spring 2004 along with the lexus IS430..watch out for those 2

I agree, not the same class. But i think the rx-8 has a nicer interior..in pics at least.
I've heard alot about the is430 but i havent heard a thing about the new supra coming out so soon?

New Supra will come out in 2004 apparently.

V-6 version will have the Lexus ES 300 Engine while the V-8 version will have the Lexus LS 430 Engine.

V-6 version is expected at around 31-32K USD (40-45K CDN). V-8 version is expected at around 40-45K USD.
