View Full Version : Registry office that will hold a plate for you? (Calgary)

Sorry for the confusing subject line!

My car registration is due for renewal but I'm kinda inclined to get some new digits for my car.

I would like to know if someone here knows of a registry office that will hold a certain plate number for you (if they have it in stock). I used to have a hookup at AMA but that person has since quit so I don't have that option anymore. I've called around a few different registry offices but I've been told they weren't allowed to do this.

Please PM me or post here if you know of a place. Thx!

From what I've seen most registries have a block of sequential plates (who knows how many) for instance person A gets WMA-669 person B gets WMA-670 and on and on

Each registry has blocks of ten. ie. XXX-670 to XXX-679. For my plates and my dad's we just called around to the registries asking which series were coming up at their location. Call in the middle of the week when they are not busy, be super nice, if the # u looking for is coming up in their series, ask them nicely to hold them cuz u are driving there right now. if they cant hold it, show up and usually they can skip a couple plates to get u what u want.
Key: be nice and its very easy.

Either another 123 plate (I just hate the letters on my current plate) or 444 (just being very anti-stereotypical Chinese).

The registry plates actually come in boxes of 50 and they go in cronological order. Currently we are going through the alphabet again and right now and were at the letters EUA at the office I'm working at. It gets really frustrating holding plates for people because they never come to pick them up after all that trouble you go through to keep that plate for them.. And sometimes the number is in high demand, so it frustrates us that we go through so much trouble for nothing. So I guess it is crucial to be nice... LOL

If you get back to me ASAP, I can get you anything between EUA 550-599. We just opened that box today so keep in mind some of the numbers are missing in between. If you want to wait a little longer, they also have EUA 600-649.

I guess it's frustrating if you hold a plate for people and they don't pick it up. From your experience, what are some high demand numbers? Just curious.

8's, 168 and 9's are in high demand with asians. Anything with a triple number is always in demand as well.

Why are 168 and 169 in demand?

All our plates are either triple 8...or combination of 3 and 8's...hah

There was DEV 666. That one was SWEET.

168 is in high demand because I heard it sounds likes "rich forever" if said in chinese.

Chinese numerology:

168 = rich all the time
128 = easy to get rich
888 = rich, rich, rich
9 = associated with longevity
3 = live/associated with living/life
444 = die, die, die!

I'm just sick and tired of the typical 3's and 8's, etc. 128 and 168 are just so cliche; they make me sick.

That's why I wanted 444! :) I also like 123 just because it's sequential.

POT 420 is not a possible combo as the Alberta system doesn't use I, O or Q.
