Yeah... I can't feel sorry for this character. It sucks for him that he did something massively boneheaded and it bit him in the ass, but Jesus. It's a freaking M3. he must not have been sent the memo about the BMW recall...all E46 owners that were sent cars that had a sock instead of an oil cap must return their cars to their dealership for a repalcement oil cap...

Actually aparantly it fell into the engine bay plastics and he couldn't find it or see where it went. Therefor it never hit the road, so therefor even if he moved it like u said he would still come up empty handed.

Nope. They'd find a way to sue BMW for not specifying that a sock is not a sufficient oil cap. Suing for hot coffee, and 99.99999999% of lawsuits in the USA post-coffee-sue, are bullshit. Unfortunately he'd probably win that one. Can't wait till the 2008 M3 with a note on the oil cap (Only use BMW oil cap, which are not made of socks)

I think you misunderstood.

If you earned the money to afford an M3, or any car really, that you worked hard to get - you wouldn't be cramming a god damn sock in the oil cap location, now would you? You wouldn't risk the potential damage to anything you truly cared for.

Same goes for everything really.. Say you have a brand new 50" LCD television .. You wouldn't go breaking it open to change the red LED light to blue, unless you were sure you knew what you were doing, would you?

But if you were given said screen you wouldn't really care, knowing you can get another one if you break one from rich mom and dad...
