Windows 2000 OS: help please

I just got a laptop off ebay. The seller forgot the password, so I can't really do anything with it. I know there's probably no workaround to get by the password issue...

How can I reformat the drive and start over again?

Boot off of a windows xp or win2k disc, and reformat.

Problem is, the laptop does not have a CD drive. Only a 3.5" floppy. If I were to reformat, how would I get windows back onto the computer?

have you tried logging on as administrator? he might not have password protected that account.

if this doesnt work you will need to reload windows onto it. W/o a cd drive you have a couple of choices

assuming you have usb ports find someone that will lend you an external cd drive and use that

use boot up floppy disks for the OS

take out the hard drive and do half of the installation (where the files are being copied) on another machine, reconnect the hard drive and finish the installation on the lap top

Make a Windows 98 boot disk (floppy) to start up into MS-DOS

type FORMAT C: to wipe your drive

Use an external USB cd-rom to install new operating system.

That's the easiest way I can think of. Pee_Sack's suggestion of trying the Administrator account is good as well.

You could save yourself a lot of time and just use a free Administrator password recovery/reset tool:

that did not work for me. i had to find to original restore disk and use ghost image from that. that is the only thing that worked for me.

Yes they will. I've reset Win2k passwords with this tool before (http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/).
