So I started getting these reminders to update in X amount of days and I think its coming up in a couple days. Is it actually worth it to do this, for fear of getting those damn warning every two seconds about not being updated/protected if I dont. Im no computer buff but I will need somehting, any thoughts?

norton anti virus?

norton sucks and barely catches any viruses, speaking from experience and having had to reinstall because of norton being lame

get a real anti virus like kaspersky.

Norton has kept me virus free for the past 7 years. The trick is to keep updating, because there are tons of new viruses created every week, so the boys at Norton keep coming out with new definitions every week.

I set mine to auto-update without me having to do anything so it doesn't bug me.

I think he yearly subscription is about to expire and they want you to buy another year. You can get a keygen but that is illegal and doing things illegal is wrong. lol

They won't work for long -if at all - since Norton requires internet authentication as well. If you wanted to, you'd have to move into "patches" which puts you at a greater risk of getting hacked.

every week? thats pretty lame, new viruses come out every DAY! Kaspersky updates every single day with updated definitions. Norton hasnt kept me virus free and MANY others either, so, reason enough not to use it.

I dissagree. The way norton works is that you can either activate either by internet, mail or phone. When you chose to activate by the internet it trys to sycro with the norton server. If you have a invalid key it will give you an error message. What you must do it activate by phone. To do this you have to choose activate using the internet then when it tries to contact the server you pull you ethernet cable to give a "unable to resove host" message. This in turn gives you a code that you must phone in, pay and get a unlocking code. There is keygens that will do this proccess for you and allow another full year of norton for free. Of course stealing software is pirating and in turn is illegal. So this is just for information purposes only.

Definately ditch Norton. Way too many processes and bogs down the system, as well as ineffective (for the most part anyways).

Never used kaspersky but i vote for Panda Titanium edition, as well as trend housecall (free, but wicked).

Get yourself Norton Corporate edition. It's awesome and it keeps you up to date. It never expires. Let me know if you need it. I got mine from *Cough cough* Limewire * Cough Cough*

You need a subscription to get liveupdate working again.

You can either a buy a subscription, or Bearshare can provide you with one that is good till 2029.

Like i said Norton Corporate Edition. Once you have that...Go to Control panel/ Add remove programs and just take everything out. Anything that has to do with Norton inc live UD. Restart your computer and install the Corporate edition. You're good to go then. Also, Download this shit. It's Awesome.

I'm with you on this. Norton has been great...not one virus ever. Just make sure you get the updates.

Judging from the ridiculous amounts of people who come into Futureshop and say "Well how would all these viruses get on, i bought Norton from you guys, isnt it supposed to stop this stuff??" and then the technicians plug it in, take everything out with trend or panda and spysweeper....i'd say I know what im talking about.
