Primavara

305 HP I belive it came out with the 305 and 350. Two barrel I belive.

i have a 305 with a 4 barrel and its only factory rated at 150 HP and 240 lb/ft

yea, caprices only came in 350 and 305 in the eightys, two barrels are excellent on gas mileage (about as good as you can get with a two and a half ton car) but your probably puttin down less than 150 hp

hmmm, i just checked chilton and it says that 84 305's only came with 4bbl carbs :dunno:

It must be 4 barrel then. Because I'm pretty sure it's 305. I mean if it was only 150 we woulnt be talking about pulling our boat right?

streetarab

the 4 barrel only makes 150 hp, :thumbsdow

Primavara

You've got me confused here man. 2 barrel = 305? 4 barrel = 150?

streetarab

there are two engines, a 305 cubic inch (5.0 liter) and a 350 cubic inch (5.7 liter)

they both came with two different types of carberateurs(sp?) a 4 barrel and a 2 barrel, the 2 barrel has two holes for air passage and the 4 barrel has 4 holes, meaning it can flow more air

you will make more power with a 4 barrel than with a 2 because the 4 barrel can flow more air

unfortunatly, the 305 with a 4 barrel carb will only make 150 horsepower, this is not alot :thumbsdow

Everyone is saying it's 305 HP so it must be 2 barrel?

streetarab
11-23-2005, 09:59 PM
no

when you say 305 HP the means 305 horsepower, unless this thing is all decked out with performance shit, its nowhere near that

305 cubic inches is the engine displacement and is independant of the carburetor size, the carburetor is what mixes the fuel and air

so it's pretty much a peice of crap then?

streetarab

no

its a good engine and will run forever if you keep changing the oil but its not a race car

Depends on what you want out of a car, if you want shitty gas milage and poor performance than it's great.

The auto 305 might be rated for about 1000 or so pounds.

The car weighs like 4000lbs and puts out 150hp/245tq.

I would say it's good for a 12+ sec 0-60 and a 18+ sec 1/4 in Calgary.

A 1984 Impala is used for taking the family on roads trips..... In 1984

itll be fine, i g-teched my car and got 17.88 in the "quarter", theyre heavy and not exactly quick, but in the rain you can still drift and the snow is a blast, if you get into an accident, youll be reletivly unharmed, theyre fuckin huge, gvw is 4800lbs on my car, that being said itll still beat some civics and other peices of shit, for your first car, if its in good shape, itll be good, be prepared to shell out in gas though

I'm very pleased with this car. Drives itself it seems like. A real treat to ride. The inside is mint nothing needs to be done. I'm going to get engine fixed up a bit, new muffler and new tires aswell. Then I'll be good to go. Everything is so clean inside so I might even just keep the orginal sterio.

if your not mechanically inclined you could pay for a lot more, theres a lot of little shit that has happened, ive had a few calipers lock up that i had to change, water pump, altenators, basic little shit, its easy to do yourself but your gonna pay out your ass if you cant, i also learned how to mount and balance my own tires, $10 a tire is far too much :D
