I'm looking to buy a car from a guy who gave me his vin number but it's missing one digit. I can't get a hold of him at the moment and I need to do this check asap. The first four digits are letters and I know the first five should be letters. Is there any consistancy to these vin numbers so you can help me fill the missing digit.
The first digits I have are hgej
It's a 96 civic h/b, Thanks

I think it might be a 1 or a 2 Josh. If it was made in Japan it would be a J. But civics are made either in Mexico or Ont. I think. try 1 or 2.

Honda doesn't even have a plant in Mexico.. and if they did the first digit would be a 3 .. 1 for US 2 for Canada and 3 for mexico

1 for US
2 for Candada
J for Japan
that seems right except there should be a J 1 or 2 in front of it
