I wouldn't recommend doing this on your first car. Get an early 90's Toyota Corolla or Mazda 323. This will give you time to learn about cars and driving, and it won't be such a big loss if or when you smash it up. Yes, kind of boring but thieves tend to overlook these types of cars and they're quite reliable.

Save up and blow your money on your second car; something fast enough that you won't need to up the HP right away.

i bought a 240sx when i was 17 three years ago. but i did have a ford taurus before that.

but keep in mind that you do want to learn how not to drive like an idiot thinking that every road is just a part of an autox course, trying to get the fastest time...

if you can find one in decent condition, consider a 85-89 toyota mr2.... some would argue but i think its a great beginner car.

its cheap on gas

only has 2 seats (so you dont have 4 other people in your car distracting you)

handles VERY good

and best of all the car dosent have too much power... its incredibly hard to overdrive a mk1 mr2 (unlike mk2's)

and they are somwhat cheap :)

i had a mint condition 85 for my first car.... only paid $3900 for it. it had no rust, only 140,000km on the odo

sold it a year later for $4900 with a blown clutch (the guy had to have it towned) needed 4 new tires and new brakes all around.

pwned! :)

Cars is an expensive hobby. If you're on a tight budget, then this isn't for you. Get a car that gets you from point A to point B. When you have a bigger budget, then go ahead with modifications. Unless you have the wallet to support it, then don't bother, honestly. Get a Honda if you still want to mod something. Cheap on gas, cheap on maintence.

BTW, there's no such thing as bolt on power.

Is it just me or is there one of these posts like once a week. why dont you RESEARCH cars that have features you like and decide from there. Any opinions given here will be a biased opinion based on what they want in a car. long story short....RESEARCH it yourself. good luck

EG or EK Civic. Drive it around, and mod it as you go as your budget allows.

i'd listen to the people who've said toyota/honda/mazda. these cars are perfect. great on gas/parts/insurance, and it's something that you can get your hands dirty with. when the time comes, you can move up.

for 3 thousand dollars he wont find anything above a 91 civic that is not super beatup in the honda clan.

i have a 88-91 civic hatch great car good on gas very reliable. if you get a cx or dx you would be under 3000$ for sure if you want an si you might get one with high kms or quite a bit of rust for that price shop around

if you look at the right places you can find some good deals. Ive gotten all my cars for cheap and sold them for more then i paid for them. i would say go for a 3rd gen prelude or a rex.

Well I'm also 16, drove by myself for just under a year now since I got my licence on dec 20th. I've first drove my dad's 97 Caravan :P had a '92 Prelude, 2 '89 240s, a Skyline GTS, and now drive a 1985 Prelude for the winter. (Btw, don't flame, only car that my parents bought was one of the 240s, other cars I paid for myself through a lot of work)

Anyways, as good as you think you drive, at first when you get a "fast" car, i.e I went from a van to a 'Lude and drove like a jackass at times. Good that this went away before my Skyline or I would have killed myself. After a ticket or two, you get better and as much as you think that you won't get into an accident, you are MORE LIKELY to do so in your first year. So if you drop soo much money into your first car, drive like a dick and trash it, not a very good investment.

Buy something reliable that will teach you basics in driving and maintenance. My 85 Prelude is for sale btw, only $1,000 (very nice, clean car which I can't get a camera to get pics of lol)

Oh and btw, I think a 240sx is a great first car, but thats just me.

why cant you rotate tires on an mr2?

btw, in the winter you can put sand bags in the Frunk and the trunk ;)

^^^ You can rotate if you're not running staggered rims.
