View Full Version : Really Bad Headaches

For the past 4-5 days, I've been getting really bad headaches throughout the day several times each day. The headache is like nothing I have ever had before and pretty much disables me to the point where I have to lie down for about 5-10 minutes. The weirdest part about it, is that I usually get the headaches immediately after physically excerting myself (i.e halfway through the first rep at the beggining of a workout).
I know I should go to a doctor about this, and I probably will during next week, but I was just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this, or knows things that can help (besides the obvious) when a headache does come.

I did, but I got tired of filtering through the hundreds of links that were just trying to sell me some migraine product.

I used to get mad migraines when I was younger but once I started drinking a lot of water each day they went away. For the last year or two I've consistently drank about 2 liters of water a day and I think it really helped with headaches.
It's worth a try. Drinking a good amount of water is really good for you anyways!
Those are probbaly tension headaches, i used to get them too. They are most likely from tense muscles in your shoulder/upper back, which is what i was told. go see ur doctor he will probably give u a prescription for naproxen.
Well, make DAMN sure its a migraine....
Are you at all sensitive to light when you get one?
I wouldn't fuck around with headaches that bad.... get to a doctor MONDAY. My buddy had the same symptoms, and they burried him 5 years ago cause he waited too long.

I had the same thing over the last 3 weeks or so. It's just going away now.
I think it was a combination of a head cold, upper back tension, poor posture, and not drinking enough water. As soon as I started to pay attention to these it started to go away.
I went to see a doctor and because my mom has an anerysem (sp?) he got kind of worried but he said it is most likely a combination of the above. DEFINATELY go see a doctor though.

Please please, go to a doctor as soon as you can. What you describe sounds ominous, especially if you have never had headaches like these. Migraines are one thing, but as Toma says, some headaches can be a harbinger of something more dangerous.
You need a doctor to assess the nature, frequency and severity of these headaches. The fact that you posted here tells me that these are out of character for you. These "worst headaches of your life" can indicate sentinel headaches. Worst case scenario for a sentinel headache is that they indicate a small bleed into your brain (due to an aneurysm), and that the next headache you have could be fatal.
While I am not saying that you have an aneurysm, I also don't want you thinking that these are ok to ignore.

You need to see a physician to get a prescription. So really, the first step should be to see a doctor and sort this out.

I would goto the doc quicker than that if you just started getting this horrible pain, could be some kind of trauma. Its not a migraine if you just got it out of the blue for the first time, most people mistake a really bad headache for a migraine without knowing they're completely different. For the most part migraines are inhereted through the female side of the family, every once in a while though they skip over to the male side to even things up, I happend to be the lucky guy in my family  I get them every week or so, sometimes they last 10-14+ days at a time.
Anyway I'm just trying to say it could be something much more serious and that you should get your ass to a doctor yesterday if the pain isn't stopping.

See a doc ASAP , its better to be safe than sorry. You could have something as simple as a migrane head ache, OR it could be something as bad as a berry aneurysm thats ruptured, or sub arachnoid bleed. If you come down with any symptoms of strange behavior, slurred speach, vision problems, hear problems, sensory motor problems, hemiplegia call an ambulance or head to the ER.
This very well could be nothing but its out of the ordinary and new for you GET CHECKED OUT!
Good luck!

not sure if they sell it here in Canada, but Excedrin for Tension Headaches works fairly well. I used to get constant and horrendous headaches. A trip to the doctor is definitely what you need though.

So I went to make an appointment with my doctor to find out he moved to Toronto. I never realized how hard it is to find a good doctor who is taking new patients in Calgary. I just walked into a local clinic and i swear I got more info off google than I did from this doctor. All she suggested was using tylenol and not working out for a while, and to come back if the pain continues. Public health care is great.
