Reason for this thread: To cut down on the daily threads about bodyshops that do work etc..., here is a central place to pick a name or a couple and go with them, contact information is easy to find, 411 or superpages.ca for you lazy people. Do a little homework yourself, I have provided you with a list for now, saves you some time for good shops.

Please do not post contact information in your replies if they are not sponsors. Company names are fine, numbers and addresses are not allowed so do not post.

Thanks everyone for their contribution, keep it coming as I am sure everyone who reads this finds it very helpful!

You think his paint work is bad... you should see his "body work" we had a cust come to us after he fixed a fender... all he did was smear some filler over a non preped surface, dont think he knows what a block is to make it look straight.. then did some half ass blend with a color that was way to red...

Good to hear some other negative reviews on Mr. Touch-up.
He has good reviews from alot of guys on Performance-shop.com

The paint is not wearing good at all and the back bumper has lots of orange peel and rough spots from dust in the paint.

I am going to get in touch with him. I don't what I should try to do, get money back!? Because I don't want him to redo it.

Everyone else seems to have good experiences with them but mine sucked. Couple things...

- was suppose to be one week to get side skirts, rear lip and mugen grill painted. ended up being over 3 weeks... close to a month.

- paint color didnt match..... they couldnt match brand new stock white paint. they said white is too hard to match.

- they warped the grill trying to install it. they fixed it after i bitched.

- they melted my rear bumper..... didnt tell me..... would not fix it. supposable that kinda stuff happens when installing fiberglass kits.

- the fiberglass rear lip didnt fit.... they can only get fiberglass 80% good. if you want it perfect there not the place for you.

- they melted under my hood trying to fit the grill. once again... would not fix it.

So basicly they suck.... and I would highly NOT recomend anyone go there.

I agree, they fixed up 3k in damage reasonably well. They took forever though. First 2 weeks in the place the car was just sitting there, he told me it would be done in 2 weeks. After numerous calls they finally get started on it and another 2 weeks time had finally finished.

Cheap out on parts. The Front bumper that was used was not OEM and was some taiwan shit with poor fit. I asked and he told me it was from Honda.

While the paint was drying on my hood they "dropped" something on it and had to redo it.

Forgot to spray my lip and told me to bring it back in (luckily it was only a 1 day job)

And to my surprise they told me it's really hard to convert from 94-97 to 98-01 Integra front ends and I need a lot of welding and new fenders :nut:

Has anyone ever heard of anything good about MAACO? I have read tons and tons of stuff about how bad it is! I am thinking about taking a bumper to get repainted there. If I do my own prep work it should be okay right??

Woodridge Lincoln does a great job of repaints! I would highly recommend them.

AllGoNoShow
11-03-2006, 10:39 PM
Maaco from what I have looked into, CAN be good, if you do all the prep work and body work and make it immaculate, then the paint won't be HALF bad. I would still watch out. There are some private ugys who can lay a coat or 2 of paint on for the same price but do much better work.

I'll add Woodridge. Thanks :)

no offense james, this thread seems pretty useless without pics, prices and detailed info about what was done. a thumbs up or down for someone who had some touchups somewhere means nothing to me. if you asked people about there opions on fast food restaurants you would get the same responses. some places might do really well with rust repair while others bondo it over and spray but do really nice jobs with newer cars. most body shops do specialize and excel in certain areas and i can't compare body shops without prices either. if somebody says they had a bad experience, maybe it was only a 1000 dollar paint job with a 1988 car that was full of rust..well what do you expect?? even before an after shots would be very worthwhile. i know i can't decide on a body shop with a couple thumbs up or thumbs down. but i know the moderators limit you on what you can do in this thread, thanks for the effort though james.

I think you should also factor in the people who are giving thumbs up or thumbs down. I mean if redlyne is giving somewhere a thumbs up it has to be great. I mean he's completely anal about details, and if a shops work was good enough for him then its a great shop. I mean he's one of the reasons that Screamin' is working on rebuilding my car...

11-07-2006, 06:22 PM
If you see a trend of people giving thumbs up or down it will help provide an overall impression of the shop...It has for me, I dont need pictures.

It's not so much about an individuals experience but a collective review, imo.

Exactly, one of the reasons I'm taking my car there this winter. I'm not goin to trust just any shop with a such a big makeover, and Based on the work I've seen i know they will take care of my car.

i don't want to clutter up this thread, but i work at a car dealership, and worked at one for 6 years and about 95% of our work was sent out to distinctive auto body who deal with a lot of high end cars. mercedes and bmw to name a few, and i saw extreamly good work from them and very poor work from them. and as far as body shops go they are above average in price. i guess i'm suggesting that people include what was done to there car in terms of body work and such, if it's just painting a spoiler or body kit, i would not base an opinion on that.

just to add looking through some old posts A1 autobody got 3 thumbs down, then i found this

But, A-1 must be doing somthing right, for the 100's of cars that crashed last year all over Calgary, A-1 got 43% of them. Also, a high percentage of insurance companies, recommend A-1 for refinishing. Last year, A-1 was the biggest body shop in North America, It could still be but, last i heard, a Shop in Texas was getting close.

from what i've seen of the a1 shop, it's a very professionally run shop. They try to provide top notch service,

Yeah A1 might do a good job, but i definitely would only recommend them if your getting the job paid for by an insurance claim. For the average beyonder that likes to do things that aren't exactly necessary to their car i wouldn't recommend bending over like that.

Vouch for A-1 doing good job! But I also vouch for them for doing crazy EXPENSIVE work!Worth the money if it's not coming out of your pocket.

Most of the cars they work on are accident vehicles. The owner of the vehicle, who is most cases is not liable and isn't paying for the repairs, doesn't give a shit how much it's going to cost, he/she just wants it done right.

So A-1 does it as best as possible. And yes, they do very good body work.

Thanks Steve.

If I had the time and was allowed to post detailed information on every shop, I would do it but I'm not.

never dealt with A-1 myself but have had a frenid deal with National himself and the problem ended up being, money was to be made with insurance contracts, not come in and do it yourself. I never knew full kit, some molding, full paint, full bodywork, custoom colour for whatever price was going to be a cheapout for them. but sure enough, 5 weeks later or something the ines he drew on the car were still there and the only other thing that had happened was it had collected couple mm's of dust.

A1 may be good enough fo rthe average person but by the looks of it anyone who knows what they want more then just a different colour is not satisfied, but thats not my judgement.

I agree, some people are more picky then others. Some people seem to be really happy with MAACO.

Has anyone else been to U-Wrench besides beyondpinoy? According to him the paint has next to no orange peel which is very impressive!

U Wrench it just rents their paint booth out.

He hired a private painter as well, which happened to be an employee there.

if I can't find a place here in Edmonton for a paint+bodykit kit install, I'm headin' over to Screaming Paintworks. Looks like all I see are positive posts. How long do you guys have to typically leave your car with these shops for paint/bodykit install?

I have known the guys at Good deal a long time. The goodis that they do quick work cheaply that is ok for those that are getting stuff like a an airdam painted and tacked on, single body component replacement, and stuff like that. Its a good shop for people that are selling a car , doing a lease return and need a cosmetic clean up.
Their long term rust repair isnt very good and they even state that on their door as you walk in, there are no warranties on rust repair. I have a few paint jobs done by them, and they looked really good for about 2 years, and then the minor rust all came back with a vengeance and is about 20 times worse than it was....
They are not restoration experts, but they do decent general body work for a reasonable price.

My interaction so far with Screamin has been very good, and they will most likely be seeing my FD back in spring.

I had an accident a few weeks ago, bashed in the front end of my Accent enough to require a hood, both headlights, a side fender panel, and straightening the rad. Here's a picture of the damage:

Then, I checked out these forums, and located Emil (mentioned in a couple of the posts above), at Amethyst Autobody. He does awesome work, and at a great price. I was quoted $2800 by one of the other shops mentioned in this forum, but Emil was able to bring in the entire job for less than half that. And he cut no corners: the parts were after-market new, the paint was perfectly matched and beautifully blended. It's been two weeks since the job, and I'm totally satisfied with the work. Here are a couple pictures of the finished job:

Give him a call if you need anything done. I have no affiliation with him, just a totally satisfied and very happy customer.

Make sure to let us know how it turns out. If you really want to get into it, some before/after pictures and a small writeup would be awsome. I'm going to start a more detailed website for some of the bodyshops for peopel to browse over
