Hey guys, my little brother is looking at buying his first car. He's pretty set that he wants an '86 Celica. I've never driven one personally so just kind of curious what you all think of these cars. I heard they are VERY VERY reliable, but as a first car is this good? Also mods... I can't seem to find anything for this car aside from an HKS cat-back. Anyone know of any good sites? I looked on a few celica forums and stil nothing.

Great first car. I used to have an '88 Celica GT. Most reliable car I have ever owned. The only problem I had was the heater, which can be a weak point on 4th gens. (easy fix with some soldering).

Check out this site.

Here is the heater control panel fix in case you ever need it.

My first car was an 87 GT, I've also owned an 88gts, 90gts and 2000gts. Great first car, minimal maintenance costs, sold mine with 318,000kms for 1000$ still running fine. There is basically no aftermarket support for that car, the only thing I would do if I wanted performance is look at a 3S-GTE swap (engine from the gt-four/alltrac). Good luck, hope you find a good one. Make sure you do a compression test before buying a car that old.

The car is fine, but there's really nothing special about it at all.

Great first car no doubt. Good on him on not trying to get something ridiculus right off the bat
