Help me price a Type R for a co worker. He is trying to sell his and figure out how much to ask for a 1997 ITR with 80,000kms. I haven't talked to him in detail yet (email only, and he says it's got a new tranny as of last year). What do you guys think this should go for?

Details will make a lot of difference in price. Accident history, origin of car, etc. etc.

His Email to me...

Aleks:

It is a 1997, first year Type R. I am on the only owner. It has 79,500 kms on it, as of this morning. Car was purchased at Silverhill Acura, service was done there for a very short time before moving to Northwest Acura for service. I have most of the records, but we can always pull them from Northwest later. The car is in pretty good shape owing to the low miles. No upgrades or modifications, the car is pretty much stock, other than the addition of a K&N airfilter. Only major work done was last year a new transmission was put in.

This isnt salt infested crap-car ville like toronto...

Maybe 15 on beyond, but anyone in their right mind would just use the autotrader since 95% of people here are lowballers. List it for 18+ in the trader, who cares what people here think? If you get more money for it, all the power to you.

If you ask more then 15K you are wasting the $60 it costs to list the car in the trader. It has low mileage, but it is still a 97. Also the tranny change doesn't help matters. Why would he change the tranny at only 80K? :dunno:

most type R's down here aren't winter driven + i could buy a 2000 R 110km for 15,600 right now so please do it bit of research and state ur opinion, and ur tellin me a 97 is worth 15000?

See there is a big difference in prices in Ontario compared to Alberta. Here people HAVE money to burn and car prices are higher (unfortunatelly). I will find out why the tranny was replaced. He's obviously an honest guy and won't hide the facts. He could have easily said nothing about it. I am sure for 15K asking he would sell it pretty quick in Calgary.

^ yea here, whether its winter driven or not, there are many other factors liek the size of the market that relate to this....all im saying is that if you were selligna car wouldnt you want to get the most money possible for it?>

Oddly enough the 97s are more rare but I am not so sure it means a higher value. Then again how many ITRs are there in Alberta? I would think quite low.

the only rare part is that they came with a more powerfull engine the b18c6. and the difference in power is approximately 7 horses.

again, it maybe only "worth" 15, but there are tonnes of ppl willing to pay more im guessing, and a car is worth what you can get for it, not what the book says ;)

:werd: 1997's didn't have B18C6. All USDM and CDM integra's came with B18C5. All with the same engine. AFAIK anyway.

Thanks for all your help guys. Looking thru some archives I couldn't find a type R for sale on here for less than 18-19K :dunno:

I will recommend he put it the trader and not on here. If he decides to price is at 13-14 Grand I think I'll just buy it.

I agree a stock 97 type r is probably worth more than $15k. Although I would like to believe they aren't, the reality in albeta is they are. lastprodigy is right market has a lot to do with it. you can find a lot of cars that are "cheap" in ontario but their population is much much larger than ours so their market probably has like 5times the amount of type r's we have here.

The B18C6 is the from the Euro Type R, which is exactly the same as a the usdm B18C5, but has a different name and has the jdm header which explains the couple extra hp.
