Time to buy a car..dilemma..

Hey..

So I had my heart set on a 97 240 sx LE, had huge plans for it and everything. Now, I got an inspection done on it today - and it needs a bit of work. Not a whole lot, but enough. Tierods, belts (minor), and a sunroof cable.
Thing is, Nissan is saying $1082.00 just for the sunroof problem, but that includes the whole rail and everything. It may be possible to get just the cable for 160 or so, but then labor was said to be around 300.
Engine leaks oil, tranny has some issues - even though I plan on doing a swap later on... they still are major issues to be addressed.

To get it to where I want it to be (with all engine + engine work) the car will come out to around 25,000 +

On the other hand, I can get a 2004 Acura TL for quite a bit less than that...
what do you guys think?

I know once I've done all that to the 240, I will never be able to sell it for that much (I'm guessing this is the case for all people who mod their cars).
I really really like the 240 though...
but is it worth it, over the TL?

Any advice would be appreciated..!

Id take the TL for that price. not a hard choice for a newer likely more reliable vehicle.

wow sounds like the car has been through alot. if you can get a 04 TL for under 25. i'd go for that instead... if i was in your position.

I would get the TL, only because it's a newer ride and comes with a fairly strong engine stock. :thumbsup:

buy the TL, sell the TL and buy 240 and pimp it out with the xtra cash.

even if you dont sell the TL, they are still 270HP

TL for sure!! Unless you have connections to someone who owns a garage and can have easy access to tools and equipment, don't bother.

hands down TL, dont just think of the speed, think of the interior compared to the 240....no comarison. TL has way more class. and everyone has or is getting a 240.

If you really have to decide between a 2004 TL for under $25K and a 1997 240SX that needs work, I say get the 240. Let someone that appreciates a great car have the TL and you learn the hard way that an old 240SX w/$15K mods is still an old 240SX that will fetch far less than the sum of the money you put into it. Take a look at the modded 240's for sale. Very few sellers don't lose their shorts selling them and those that don't, have to wait a hell of a long time to get even close to their asking price, plus the 240 fad is on the wrong side of its peak and most owners don't hang on to them for very long after realizing that they are just an okay, not great car.

man i work at SilverHill Acura and may i just say that the TL is the most fun u can have in a sedan, if u can get a TL for under 30K... dude do it right away u cant go wrong. plus dont forget the best part.... VTECCCCCCCCCCCC.
