ask sr20det

or go down to autodream talk to nguyen, he'll hook you up. he's done quite a few sr20det's, i think the majority of sr20dets in town are done by him

You could also talk to a member on here named "Hollywood".
He might know a thing or two about the swap :D

We have actually just finished one in a 91 240SX and it runs great. We have one more S13 left in stock so if you guys are interested come by and take a look.

Is that Tony's? I know him and he said he was getting it done there. I can't wait to see it.

just wondering roughly how much it costs to get the swap done. Including engine, tuning, install, the whole deal. (minus the cost of the car)

How fast are 240sx' with sr20det's?

XylathaneGTR
03-02-2003, 12:22 AM
Uhhh
I think a really good condition Redtop S13 SR20det, goes for 3600 or something, w/o instal. With the instal included, your looking at about 5000 dollars altogether. I wanted a 240 w/ sr20 for a while, so i, uhhhm... Looked into how much everything would cost.

Nguyen should be able to hook joo up.
As for how fast they are... The engine weighs about 10-20 lbs lighter then the KA24DE, and it makes about 50 more horses.
Their not insanly faster (stock vs stock)...but their is a noticeable difference, and the range of parts is wayyyy wider.

so a quarter mile on a sr20det with a few mods????

Low 14s

XylathaneGTR
03-02-2003, 07:52 PM
Yeah...Low 14's, High 13's with the right setup and basic bolt ons sound good. Better then the like, Hi 14's low 15's you'd get with a KA24. Once you starting investing in the engine...its a really, really powerful and strong engine.

Umm, not a chance.
Maybe with a bit of boost and some BPU, but otherwise no way.

xylathane gtr, your 15 years old, you take the bus, you wont own a sr20det anytime soon! WTF are you doing yapping about cars that you dont know????? A certain s14 240 I know of, ran a 15.9 on a gtech, with a passenger in the car. Dude, do a little more research before you whore up the forums with useless information.

I plan on seeing what my 240sx will be running. its a 1990 ka24de with 230 000km on it. well personally I am not to big of a fan of paying $4000 for the time to drop the time by 2 seconds. Thats why I am going to work on my suspension and make it a smoother ride.

Yea I think a stock 240 is about as quick as a stock Integra LS.

But sr20det's are really low 14's?

well i really don't know why some guys spend thousands of dollars on a street car just for it to be a little bit faster. but thats just me and i know some of you like to. buts yes to my knowledge 2 seconds is alot of time from what I have heard from you guys.

I understand, and used to feel the same way as you. Sounds so menial but say 2 seconds at 90 mph is roughly 83meters difference. (I think unless my calculation is wrong!)

Aleks
03-03-2003, 12:11 AM
Yes 2 seconds is tonns!!!. At 100 km/h if you are 2 seconds quicker that means you are about 56 m ahead. (about 15 car lenghts  )

For comparison, Im guessing the typical turbo kit for imports is over $4000 and it WILL NOT give you 2 seconds in the quarter.

EternalRage

i guess it all depends on witch sr20det you put in, if you go with the s13 it might be cheaper, but the s15 will be the biggest gain,

S15 or blacktop? Crazy. What front mount?

I have a Redtop in my 240, and I'm really glad with the money spent on the car. Crazy fast now. I haven't run it on the track or anything yet. But here is a slight comparison: Friend has a 2000 BMW 323i and with the KA24DE he would smoke me pretty good. After the engine, and before it was tuned, I was a good 4-5 cars ahead of him in third gear.

The top end on the SR is crazy now. You would never see that kind of acceleration on the KA after 120kmh.

I'm hoping for some low 13's in the 1/4, although I've heard of some 12's with the same setup as me. But thats pretty rare. Setup is Apexi FMIC, TurboSmart BOV, Blitz Dual SBC Boost controller (running at 14psi), ACT clutch, stepped flywheel, 3inch downpipe, 3inch exhaust system. We'll see how it does in the summer.

If your buddy is going to do the swap, one can never give an exact price on the total price. There will ALWAYS be extra hidden costs ALWAYS. Tell him to have about an extra 1000-3000 dollars laying around for a "just in case" scenario.

BTW, Hollywood, I figured out the problem with the spuddering. All cleaned up now.

PEACE

Ya allways extra costs.

What was the problem? Fuel related? Oh ya the fuel pump is 109 US not 190, sorry I got the numbers mixed up.

Boost leak in the piping somewhere. Was throwing it off somewhat. I found someone in the states with the same symptoms, and that helped a lot.

Yeah, I figured that for the fuel pump. Thanks again.

PEACE

I think he meant that he got beat by a bmw 323i WHILE he still had a KA24 in his 240.

He got the JDM OE stuff from the US which was the JDM OE metal fenders, JDM OE hood, lights, bumper cover, rad support...etc. Then he bought C-west body parts including a new front bumper, spoiler etc....

C-West so far is the best quality body kits I have seen...ever, I was really impessed.

He is going to have one of the hottest imports in calgary this year, and it should be nice and fast too.

Thanks for the comments guys. Should be all done around the end of April. Im planning on painting it BMW titanium silver or a nissan grey or silver the skylines for the r32-r34 have real nice greys so I may go with one of those. Ive been trying to pick a color for the last 2yrs so its not like anything is in stone. Well see once we got the body work done. Having to flare the rear fenders some to accomodate the 9inch rims with the wacky offset. As for the engine, its getting some major work done quite soon just waiting for the new block and a bunch of stuff from japan to get here. Rebuilding it with, arias pistons, eagle rods, arp head bolts, tomei valve guides, tomei ras, tomei 70mm oversized t-body, tomei oversized oil pan, tomei 1.2mm headgasket, JWT S4 cams, JWT valve springs, JWT titanium retainers, HKS manifold, HKS GT-RS turbo, and HKS turbo extension pipe, also upgrading to a larger fuel rail custom made by myself and well machinest uncle, to accomodate MSD 72lbs inj and aeromotive 1:1 fuel pressure regulator. Once everything is done I think this setup should be able to make 380 at the rear wheels. We will see. Im going with Tectom for ecu tunning at Regis shop. Gotta go. Cant waste my time typing on the computer when I here in Mexico trying to get some color on my white ass!!!
