Skiing at sunshine on Xmas day with the 3 brothers, tradition. Not exactly the best conditions whiteout the whole day and they shut down a couple of the lifts because of the wind at the top. Thankfully the hill wasn't too busy that anything got backed up.

Damn that hotel looks awesome. How much did it cost your rents to stay there? I'm guessing at least 800-900.

Right now I am using teh Lowepro/Canon Rebel XT Kit bag... which is great if your lenses are small consumer things... But its just not tall enough anymore for the 70-200 on the body (which I prefer to do.. less dust problems)...

I was considering getting a backpack bag... as I do alot of skiing, but those packs have enough slots for like 8-12 lenses... and I don't plan on ever having that many.... I think its gonna be a very scientific and mathematically precise purchase to work for my planned lens arsenal....

turboMiata
01-08-2006, 10:28 PM
yeah, the lowepro backpacks are overkill. i personally don't like them because you have to set them down to swap lenses. have you seen the crumplers? uber cool camera bags. i've been thinking about one myself. i like the removable laptop sleeve.

I should consider a camera bag, sounds useful.
When we have out next meet I'd like someone to try my 70-200 for a while. The images don't seem sharp when they're more then 10m away. It may be the camera itself, but I'd like to find out.

Tokina 12-24 f/4
Canon 28-70 f/2.8L

I'm in the same boat. I've managed to make my already pretty huge camera bag last me 2 years, but I have to trek too much misc crap with me in pockets and stuffed into the top of my camera bag. The undistributed weight is starting to kill me at weddings and stuff...My nexy upgrade that I want to get is over $200! My last one was $125 lol...still debating if I wanna sell my old one or keep it for trips where I wont need all my stuff

heh, yeah, they are changing stuff around on their site. and crumplers' site sux big time.

i noticed you mentioned the 28-70 f/2.8. how come not the 24-70??

since we are all thinking here about what to buy this year, i'll just toss in my dream list as well:

- pocketwizards
- 15mm f/2.8 fisheye (again)
- cokin p-system
- 77mm circular polarizer
- some 300mm solution
- 1.4 TC

Might be better technology... but the quality control has slipped with th 24-70's... the 28-70's are also suppose to have slightly better image quality.. also, would prefer to buy locally... :)

Nice shot of the watch - the reflection on the table and the DOF at the bottom of the image make it look like a pool of "liquid table", if you catch my meaning. :D

Anyway, here's tonight's stuff.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c311/BeyondHockey/fullchest.jpg

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c311/BeyondHockey/Chest.jpg

On a somewhat related note, I think my camera's sensor is buggered. On every shot I take there appears to be "lit pixels" - bright spots on the image, in the same dozen or so places every time. I don't think it's sensor dust, since 1) my camera is a sealed unit, and 2) they show up, quite clearly, on pictures of my pitch black, lightless room.

I didn't edit them out of my third pic so you can see what I'm talking about - the bright dots all over the image. There's also a red dot and blue dot, but they didn't show up well in that shot.

It's getting annoying PSing them out of every picture I take. :banghead:

those are stuck pixels. it's a fact of life with digital cameras. what kind of camera do you have? you may be able to map it out in the firmware.

I use an old Toshiba PDR-3300 3.2 MP. I don't think there's even a firmware update for his thing, much less a pixel mapping function.

Then again, it's not a huge deal. I've been planning to buy a new camera for a while now.

I don't have a tripod yet...going to get one tomorrow afternoon. Alot of these could have been 10x better if i had a tripod i think. Went to California over the winter break with my family. First trip outta canada for me so it was pretty exciting.

For those OC fans out there, we did an OC tour of newport beach. We saw the restaurants where they film the show and the school they go to and the Cohen house and that lobster place that Ryan worked at etc... I can post more of those if you guys want. Newport is absolutely beautiful though.

Kirbs... for your last shot.. you should try using some tissue paper over the flash to diffuse it so you don't get the harsh hot spots everywhere.... ;) Works great!

Shit, forget $40, my camera's worth about a tube of Go-Gurt.

Sorry, but I've already promised my girlfriend she can have it when I upgrade. "Sorry, babe, but I gave it to some guy on the Internet" would be a tough sell, let me tell you. ;)

Besides, it's a very poor camera and the sensor's starting to die. You'd be way better off saving up some cash and getting a good used Canon. I see lots of quality cameras for sale on Beyond for very good prices, just keep your eye on the Marketplace.
