I was wondering if those sort of pre loaded credit cards are sold in canada. I have some friends who have got them in the states. They work kind of like a phone card but you can use them to pay for stuff that requires a credit card online such as: ebay, magasine memberships, buying parts from online stores?

If you know what i am talking about or where to get one let me know please. There are some things i would like to buy for the 7 but the place can only take credit cards and seeing as i am only 16 that doesnt work to well.

Well seriously I would axe to borrow your parents cards. Reason being is those are still credit cards and as such will require you to sign a credit agreement...and since you are still not 18...I don't think it will be kosher...

My dad is so damned paranoid that he wont even type his numbers in on word. When we had the option to save 50$ on norton security he opted to go to the store and pay nearly 100$ for it when he coulda got it for close to 50$ right from systemac.

I was told that you just buy them like phone cards and once you have spent everything your done. (of course you pay for the full value of the card when you buy it)

Agreed, but a lot of online retialers (at least the legit ones) will only send out purchases to cards that they can verify addys to.

There is a bank that gives out credit on credit cards, once its done its done. We used it couple of nights ago for gas, I think it was BMO but I don't recall. I will check into it when I see him again.

you can always try home trust visa and capital one mastercard. they offer something called a secure credit card. that's when you apply for a card, give them like $500 for example and they will issue you a card for the amount you give them. the inital amount you gave them is a deposit that you will get back when you cancel the card and yes you do collect interest on it.

this is an excellent way to build your credit up for the future. but each month you have to make the minimum monthly payments though and if you miss one.....it reflects on your credit rating, which makes getting credit cards or loans in the future tougher. due to your age you might have to get your parents to give you some sort of legal consent before you can apply for the card though. search for capital one or home trust online and see what they say on their site. also research about securecredit cards to learn more about what i'm yapping about.

hope this helps.

Maybe they won't give you a credit card because you don't have steady income. If you're on UI, there's no guarantee that you'll have your job back.

35k a year is nothing. My advise is to stay home as long as possible and save your money.

You should be able to sign up for a CIBC Classic Student Card no problem... I don't have a job and I've got one. :dunno:

I ended up going to Money Mart today and picking it up. The Newwave TITANIUM MasterCard is what its called. Its actually not that bad but the small fees are gay.
It was $21.34 (G.S.T) for the card then you had to put $10 on it right away. I put $40 though. Then each time you load the card up its another $2 unless you are cashing a cheque or paying a bill, then its free. Each time you use it to buy something its 0.50. Which isn't bad if your only using it on the occasion to buy stuff from the net like I will be. On top of that its $7.50 a month to have. That is taken out of what ever you have on the card and it will never go into the negatives. So when you stop using it, the card will expire with that fee on it. If you wanna renew your card then you will have to pay it, but other wise they have no other link to you to collect that money. It doesnt effect your credit at all which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

And yes I was asking about it because my parents are paranoid about putting their CC numbers on the internet. This way I am technically safer. I am also fully indepentant to pay the card and no one else had to sign, co-sign or even give permission for me to have it.

If it is what I think it is, it's basically just a gift card. They're becoming very popular gifts now.
They work the same as a gift card and I believe most credit card companies and banks issue them. There's a preset limit (just like the Future Shop GCs), when you make a purchase it deducts from the account (like debit) and its accepted everywhere credit cards are.

Although its avoidable on a real CC if you pay off your balance each month.

Exactly, except with retarded fees. Oh well though it gives me acces to shopping online now. It will be a big help when ordering parts as i dont have to wait the 5 business days to put money into my pay pal account then the 4 business days to send (if the person isn't verified.)

EDIT: It also works to buy porn. Just tried one of those 3$ 5 day trial offer things to test it out and it worked.

Now its time to get me some S5 tail lights for the RX-7

True and after adding those fees up it does add up. (if that makes sense)

To get a 7.50 interest each month you would have to be making minimum payments on like 1500.00 if not more. :nut:
